Cannot get surround sound to work. Only 2 of the

Cannot get surround sound to work. Only 2 of the 5 speakers work Phillips MMS 460. Those would be the Front Out speakers, marked as "white". The Surround Out do not work, unless I plug them in the other 3.5 jack connector. Then the Front Out speakers do not work. The Subwoofer does not have any sound either. The center speaker gives out no sound itselft, although the power button on top of it and the volume control do work. Could it be that the unit is defective and in need of repair? That I need to test it with a DVD or CD that will play in surround sound? I bought it open box and the retailer says they tested it and everything should work. I did notice that the external power cord plug does not fit snug. It should plug in right up tight to the subwoofer. It does not. Could that be the problem? I have a Gateway computer and the hookups all color coordinated, the installation was no problem.

I have a relatively similar problem with the MMS 430 version (only 2 satelites) The subwoofer works intermittently, mostly.. don't. It first happened a few months after the warranty expired...nothing unusual here id say. The funny thing is after a few months of being pulled over, it worked for 2-3 hours/days...and there ew go, subwoofer dead again. This is really annoiyng, I use to love those speakers. Now I can only enjoy them once in a few months :)

Hello, i have phillips 460 5.1 speakers.. the sub is buzzing/humming REALLY loud.. it does it every now and again.. will start of quiet, then gradually get louder. they are a few years old now,...

the speakers plug/outlet is usually at the back of the computer you will have to open up the computer to check the lead attached to the rear of the input plug make sure the connection is good
try cleaning your computer of dust using a fine air blower from a compressor making VERY sure that there is no MOISTURE in the air line specifically around the CPU central processing unit and your sound card dust causes static to build up in a computer causing it to overheat any many other problems
be sure to wear an anti static earth strap before touching anything inside your computer
hope this helps

I need help hooking up my tv and dvd player to my surround sound

for your dvd player you just go from audio out on the back of the dvd played to the audio in on the surround sound. and you would do the same for the tv if it has an audio out. your surround sound shoud have more than 1 audio in. and then when you swicht from tv to dvd you might have change the channle, setting, source, or what ever it might be called on the surround sound. and if your tv does not have a audio out contact me at and i try to help you. hope that works :)

Add 2 speakers outside on a 6 speaker surround sound and hear all

You won`t get surround sound mix with 2 speakers, you can have a 2nd zone but this will only play a "Stereo Sound" if you have that playback option with the SC-RT50, what you will need is a speaker selector switch or better known as an A & B switch, this will ideally run from the front left and right speaker output of the receiver into the A & B switch then run into each pair of speakers inside or outside, what is common nowdays are receiver that are known as 2nd zone connections where you can have 2 sets of speaker in different rooms, unfortunatly the SC-PT50 does not have this option.

Hi. I have had a Philips MMS 460 5.1 surround sound system for about a year already. However, its been plugged and unplugged from my computer to my ipod in various times. However, there is no power now and...

there is most likely an internal problem then and it would need to be tested to see what has exactly happened to it
if you cannot work on this then taking it in to a repair shop or seeing what phillips can do for you would be a couple of options

Can't get the surround sound to play the rear speakers and small front speaker

Sounds like it's just in 2 channel stereo mode, only 2 speakers working out of 5 and a sub, look for a selector switch for switching to 5.1 surround, as far as the no video problem try replacing the cable for the video connection.

No sound

Most computers use the GREEN output jack on the sound card for playback...plug your headphones in the back where the speakers go...sound? Yes...then verify you ahve the speaker system put together you don't...note: self powered speakers must be plugged in to work (electrical plugged in). If no...then you got a bigger fish to fry... Good lUck
