There is a carriage lock on either the right or left side of the carriage. It is a lever that moves back and forth to lock the carriage in the center for transportation.

Carriage lock on adler typewriter

Turn the T/W off, slide the carrier to the R., look for debris in the carrier area. Spray some WD40 on the silver shaft that the carrier slides on.
Move the carrier back and forth to be sure tghere isn't a bind or hitting something.

You are probably in KBII. Goto, click on support, poke around and you will find a manual.

I just got a typewriter (I think it's a Royal #10, circa 1933) and it was working perfectly, but then I hit the margin release key (I think this is the last thing I did) and now all of the hammers only go...

The mech that locks the keys at the right margin did not return to position after margin release. Probably sticky with age. Tough to talk you through but it needs to be cleaned and lightly lubed.

Quite old Adler Royal Satellite 4. Key and printwheel somehow got out of sync. How do I insert the printwheel so that the "t" key types a "t"?

Not real familiar with this one but check to see if the pitch selector isn't in PS or you may be in KBII mode.

The printwheel has lost it's home position. Release the lever holding the printwheel, remove it and re-install it. Push the lever toward the platen to lock it in. Turn the typewriter on. The printwheel should spin, the carriage should move to the left and the come back to the left margin. You should be OK after that. Let me know if it helps or not Ed
