Question about Kenmore Washing Machines

1 Answer

The machine only fills up the water level and then it gets stuck there. It sounds like the motor is going to kick in, but it does not.

Assuming that this is a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain washer.

Have you checked the motor coupling.

That is a device that connects the motor to the transmission .

To remove the cabinet on this design machine. Locate two screws in the bottom front of the control panel.

This panel is where you set controls. Remove the two Phillips head screws and lift up and turn control panel backwards. It will hinge to an up position and stay there.

Locate the two brass colored clips that hold the back of the washer to the cabinet. Remove by prying up with screwdriver.

Unplug the wires going to the lid switch. Pull forward on the cabinet and the whole thing will disconnect from the base of washer and you can set it aside.

After removing the cabinet, remove the pump and motor.

This is the Sears parts site. Enter your model number and a list of major components will appear.

Check the site for the pump and motor and you'll see the motor coupler.

If this plastic and rubber part is damaged on your machine, the motor will try to spin but the transmission (agitate and spin) won't be able to.

this possibly a bad contact on the panel board, thats why the system malfunction by itself. better to check on the every switch contact and clean for any moisture on the board.

Washer is overflowing

The water input on washers is controlled by the timer which actuates the solenoid valves for both hot and cold water, telling them when to fill and when to close. I would run the machine thru a fill cycle with the washer back off, and with a voltmeter, observe if the voltage ever cuts off as the timer runs. I Another variable is the water level control. So also determine if that is working since if it failed to open the 'fill' circuit at the proper volume, you might have this overflow problem.

Water level was working . hose came off back. now water level won't stop filling

either a water valve or a bad control. valves go bad over time much like the gas coils on a dryer, they swell. controls can sometimes get stuck on fill. but the valves are mosre likely to fail.

Kenmore 80 series will agitate but not spin or let water out.

Hi, I know washer had a party, he just need a dancing partner, joking, that's a common problem, when machine is not properly level, you should used spirit level, to level machine, after leveling machine, place both hands on machine, and try to rock it from left to right, forward and backward, and it should not have any play, if there's play adjust legs to compensate, water has to be pumped out first before machine spins, rhere's something wrong with water pump, maybe some fabric stuck in pump impeller, or maybe wires disconnected from water pump, remove back of machine and check connection to water pump, check for kink hoses, visual check, if wire were remove, connect to water pump, you're smart. good luck.

Makes ice fine but doesnt dispense

Sounds like the dispenser auger is frozen up or stuck. The lights dimming happens because the voltage drop from the stuck auger's motor when you try to use it. Remove the ice machine and clean it. Do not try to take it apart!
Sometimes, the ice machine will fill too much with water and get stuck. Often, it's because the cabinet isn't level.

Maytag FAV6800AWW - Major overflow right after starting machine

Hi, If you turn the water source valve on and water starts filling the machine even tho the machine is off, change the inlet valve.
If you have to start the machine so water will fill but, the water does not shut off at the desired level, there is a problem with the water level switch.
I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Bosch washing machine will not fill, spin, drain..has power and water to machine...perhaps circuit board?

If it won't fill it may not spin or drain unless the water level switch is bypassed. I would check the water valve & the water level switch and tube from level switch to tub must be air tight no holes.
The water level switch must kick in to agitate. I'm not sure on Bosch but some work like this..

Washer fills up only half way but water keeps trying to fill tub

That is because the water level switch get stuck when water level reaches that particular point.

The water level switch is activated either by a floater sensor or by a membrane sensor that detects water pressure/volume, depending on the model.
On washing machines it is usually a membrane switch, and that is faulty on your machine.
