Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have a ten year old kp61xbr48 tv. It is in new condition. I turned it on, and my picture and sound are gone. The warm up timer light on the front continues to blink, but the unit will not go on. I unpluged the tv for ten minutes and plugged it back in to no avail. I have some electronics background. None of the fuses are blown. I found three. One was on the power supply board. The othr are probably left and right sound. I find nothing burnt, etc.. I need a sony projection monitor expert. Help !!!! Steve from Pa.

The possible problem indicated by this type of blinking could be no reply from the jungle IC301 (data bus is busy, shorted to ground, or held high), IK video path is defective. most probably its faulty D board or the two ic on the d-board are gone faulty.A very common cause of this problem is the failure of one or both of a pair of ICs on the D-board. The D-board has a three or four inch black and gray component (flyback transformer) on it with a stiff/thick red wire that runs up to the tube anode and a couple of wires running to the tube neck boards. Looking from the rear, the D-board is on the left. IC8002 and IC6501 are located between the flyback and the two largest capacitors (metal cylinders) on the board. According to the service manual, there is a service position, wherein the bottom section, D-board + the rest, can be rotated up so that the bottom of the boards are accessable. This is done by lifting levers on the right and left of the chassis bracket. Your other option is to remove the board, however the connections on the flyback are very tricky and can be broken if not detached correctly.
the cost of this board is near to $400.and cost of ic is $20.first try replacing the ic by soldering machine.if still the same result the d-board needs replacement.you can get it from www.partstore.com --------- thanks.please do rate the solution.thank you for using fixya.keep updated.

My ten year old sony plasma tv has vertical herring bone lines no picture just color lines. Is my picture tube gone.

If its 10 years old boards and or parts will likely not be available--average life on Plasma and LCD sets is 3-5 years.

I would retire it--recycle it and buy a new set.
