Dishwasher door latch (by 4 users)

posted by askewj on Dec 09, 2007

My dishwasher door is closed and stuck. Something in the latch mechanism seems to have broken and I cannot open the door. The lever/latch located in center and underneath the console feels loose and not completely attached. How do I open the door?
I have the same problem latch stuck up inside dishwasher and can't open now, its a whirlpool don't know the model#

Same problem as Linda 47, handle is stuck closed on my KitchenAid dishwasher, and the thing WILL NOT open. When it closed the last time right before it was stuck, it made made an unusually loud click.

Same problem - door is stuck and won't open, but there are no screws to the left and right of the door handle. Any other ideas? Is this a common problem wiht these dishwashers, and if so, will the manufacturer help at all with the repair?

sounds as if your door latch/handle is broken internally.your dishwasher is installed with 2 screws to theunderside of your countertop. its tricky but youll have to remove them (adjusting to leveling legs down will give you more room to get some kinda a phillips head bit in ther to remove the screws), once out slide the d/w foward and remove the strike plate door will open at least get your dishes out

Check for a couple of screws to the left and right of the latch handle. Remove them and the unit should slide out and allow you access... By the way...if they are loose, tighten them first...you may just fix the problem.
