Cant re-install windows vista to my dell vostro 1700

I am trying to install windows vista onto my dell vostro 1700. It originally came with this installed but then failed to boot up. It prompted me to use the vista repair disc. It ended up installing vista from the disc. It went through the installation until the completing installation part then it ground to a halt. It stayed on the completing installation part for hours. I still cant boot up the computer. What am I doing wrong? Is there an installation procedure I need to follow?

The sound went out on my vostro 1700, and by the time support "helped" me, now it won't load and I can't reinstall windows. (I originally had vista). The disc drive now also stops during install.

    I need help too

I also have a Dell Vostro 1700. It would boot and then just hang. So I tried to reinstall. I booted to the Recovery CD fine, I even formatted the partition before installing Windows Vista, but after about 30min, the install just stalls. I reboot and try again, reformatting a different partition, same result.

What am I doing wrong? Can anyone please help me??

I am trying to install Windows Vista Basic from the recovery disc and it keeps stalling after 30min. I let it run for 4 hours today, it was stalled on the same screen. Dell says this should only take 1-2hours. HELP HELP!!

Did you try the repair option again, this time just choose repair. If not you need to clean install the computer. You can go the microsoft site to get full instructions for "Clean Install Vista"

try to turn off security center and any other security software installed in your laptop. if fails. boot to safe mode with networking then try to download again the file. if fails check if other computer can download it successfully using the same connection, router and modem. just to isolate if a security in your router has been enabled.

Dell vostro 1700 NETIO.SYS 0xc0000098

This is probably a problem with either the media (bad disk, or picky optical drive) or with some hardware. In the first case, I would try to reinstall first, and if that fails consider using a different drive or disk (if possible). As it points to the Netio.sys file, in the second scenario it may be related to a network device (i.e., ethernet). My suggestion in that case would be to remove all devices possible from the computer, and to disable on-board LAN/audio in BIOS to see if that helps.

Hi Vostro owner.Dont worry, this can be sorted.Sound issue is not because u installed windows from a Non-dell cd.But i would ask to call up dell because they will provide u the XP disc that should have come with the system or even it is lost from you. Also then we can download the driver from support site : www.support.dell.com and install it.It is just a mere coincidence now.But the reason i'm asking to get cd from Dell is so that u can avoid any future problems with installing XP from a non-dell cd

Dell Vostro 1700 won't startup - woman in need of help!!! :'(

Don't choose safe mode.

If you have in the F8 options, a Recovery Console select that and run at the command prompt:

chkdsk /r

That will look for and repair disk errors.

Otherwise, look for and select Restore my computer, from this F8 menu.

Failing that you will need a copy of Vista or XP but if you have a 64bit OS like Vista64 you will need a copy of that.

Let me know what happens. But, I won't be online for much longer so I'll send a message to a friend of mine in Ireland who can help you further since he's in a different time zone.

Regards,
Worldvet
