Kenmore refrigerator water leaking down into refrigator section from top. Ice forming around vents. Also fresh section not getting as cold as should. Think could be defrost drain plugged.

Whirlpool refrigerator ER2CHMXPL00 & leak

If you have water leaking into the fresh food section of the refrigerator, then the condensate drain if either frozen at the evaporator OR clogged at the drain pan or both. There are air vents in the top of the fresh food section to allow cold air down from the evaporator compartment and return air up from the fresh food section, and these holes cannot be covered or closed off. Check the drain trough under the evaporator for ice build up. Also check that there is nothing stopping the water flow down at the drain pan. If there is no water in the pan under the refrigerator down by the compressor, you have a restriction that needs to be cleared.

How can i fix it when kenmore type JD21, model 970-432603 refrigerator not cold but freezer is cold

Ice build up on the coils can cause this. If there is ice then you need to check the defrost timer first to see if it works. Then check the defrost coil, then the fan.

Amana TZ22RW Refrig (1993) : Water is leaking down.

I am pretty sure you are having a defrost drain blockage problem. Most defrost every eight hours and over a period of time the drain line that comes down from freezer into a cup like object top middle and back of the fresh food section. If blocked by gunk or ice you will see trails of liquid leaking down the rear wall of fresh food compartment until it reaches the crisper drawers. This is not always the same with every model as you may see frozen ice flowing down ther rear wall of freezers on side by sides. Here is an example Click here=> Whirlpool Leak Photo taken by TechnicianBrian He has been around a good bit and deserves credit for his contributions. Here is another way to make this look more si mple in clip below. TechnicianBrian.com And in this photo are several parts listed in photo group #1 were it is most likely running down the wall=> MagicChef CTB1921AR fresh food section. If you still have questions please ask and rate me if I was able to explain this well enough. Every refrigerator is made different so these are examples only. The key is to find if ice or just gunk has blocked you defrost drain. Unplug and then remove the rear panel in back of freezer. We need to see if the water is overflowing the condensate drain tray or if the blockage is in the turn the drain leads down back of your refrigerator. Much more on this page=> Leaking Refrigerators! This is a common tip so I will be placing this post and add as we go new ideas listed in Sea Breeze Tips Section. I have a Kenmore side by side refrig (no ice maker) Freezer works fine. The refrigerator side is not cooling. I have cleaned out the vent between the freezer and the refrigerator section by defrosting the...

Check to make sure the evap fan is running.
IF so, then let unit defrost, then turn back on, check for air comming thru top of refrig vent, if air moving ok, then let run for a few days and see if refrig warms again, if so then check for frost build up on back wall of inside freezer, if so, you have a defrost problem. With a defrost problem, defrost heater may be bad, defrost timer/electronic control may be defective. Either way, in most cases it is a defrost problem unless you don't have air moving and fan is running in this case you have a damper door problem inside air duct in refrig.

Water leaking inside refrig below ice maker

Hi

Most times this is a plugged defrost drain system. The defrost heater in the freezer section melts the frost and changes it to water, this water is suppose to flow down a drain system. If this drain system is restricted or plugged the water will leak inside the refrigerator. The drain system starts in the freezer section with a tray built under the evaporator coil. The water is funneled through a small hose into a cup in the top middle of the fresh food section ( not on all models, but this is the most common way ), from there, the water is directed out the back wall to a drain hose that runs down the back of the refrigerator into a condensing tray. The heat created under the fridge makes the water evaporate and disappear. Some of the cups ( in the top back of the fresh food section ) can be removed for cleaning. A turkey baster can be used to help clean out the drain system. Fill the baster with hot water and "blast" it into the drain hose to help flush it out. A piece of wire or pipe cleaner can also be pushed into the drain hoses to help clean then out. On a S x S style of fridge the drain system is in the bottom back of the freezer section and often you will have to remove the evaporator cover to access the drain hole. You can clean this out in the same manner as previously mentioned, but because of the water leaking into the freezer instead of the fresh food section you will have to remove the ice build up to clean out the drain system. For some reason Whirlpool has found a need to "hide" the drain hose inside the walls now ( Whirlpool makes many of the Kenmore branded refrigerators ) on there top freezer refrigerators. This makes accessing the drain hose to flush it out more difficult, no cup inside the fresh food section, no hose down the outside back wall and the only access is inside the freezer section behind the back false wall and under the evaporator coils.

Refrigerator Water Leak from opening under Freezer

easy fix my man. couple of possibilities: 1) the fresh food gets cold air from the freezer via the vents where the water has been coming out. the water has frozen up in the vents and is blocking the airflow. the reason the water was coming out in the first place is a slow drain. open up the evaporator cover inside the freezer. get all the ice out of there and clear the drain. a little bleach will kill the gunk that made the drain flow slowly.
2) you have a defrost issue and the coil is loaded up with frost causing no airflow to the fresh food section. check the defrost heater limit and timer. none of these repairs should be over 150. but thats in lawton ok. if you live in L.A. or NYC get the wty.

if you are having tempurature issues make sure the fan in the freezer is operating. it should be on when the compresor is running. this may explain both warm fridge and no ice.
