The shutter continues to click in rapid concession Canon 20d

It's a frustrating catch all error and needs service.The camera may have any one of numerous issues or lens issues. If you have more than one lens, see if the error occurs with both lenses on. If not then it's a lens error. A camera repair facility can plug unit the camera and download a more accurate troubleshooting code. Royal Camera Service in Hanover Park, IL is good source for this problem. The replaced the shutter on my 20D when I got the error 99 code.

1.Remove the battery, lens and CF card. Allow the camera to sit without power for 20 minutes and then reinsert a fully charged battery.
2.Turn the camera on and push the shutter button as if you were taking a picture.
3. If you don't get the error message reattach the lens and insert the CF card.

The Canon 20 D is a fantastic camera but the weak point is the shutter it last about 70 to 80,000 actuation then causes a bunch of problems. In Canada it cost about $180.00 including the shipping to the repair depot to get it fixed.

Most likely the shutter blind sticking, so it will need a service. The cost might exceed the second hand value of the camera though.

Hello - I figured it out. I had the exact same problem. The shutter failed and it had to be fixed by Canon. Apparently that happens after the shutter fires so many times (like a click-count on a printer). I just got my camera back and it's doing awesome now.

Make sure the camera is OFF when placing the battery in it, and have the mode dial (Top left side) set to the green rectangle for automatic mode. Then turn ON.

If it won't focus, won't trip the shutter, and sometimes won't turn off, the shutter release switch is defective and needs to be replaced. This is not user replaceable, and will cost about $125 at a repair shop.

its the exposure of the shutter speed of the camera

it might need to be set manually. set it to 2.8 or 4.5 speed

i had the same problem when i bought my sigma 20mm-80mm lens.

the lens wasnt talking to the camera properly, it didnt know what it was aying about exposure speed rate.

put the camera in AV mode and set the speed rate.

the lens might be compatible with your camera even though it is a canon, or it could be defective

On most digital cameras there is a factory reset' button (maybe hiding under the back-up battery, if you have such a thing) ...

Exactly same problem, shutter clicks until battery removed. Power may be on or off.
