IBM Selectric II keeps returning to right.

IBM Selectric II was just serviced after storage and it looks great BUT: After you hit the return key, the carriage goes to the left margin and immediately all the way to the right again. What's up with this? Thanks for your help!!

IBM Selectric II. Hit return with cover open, and carraige is stuck at the left end. There is no response from any key.

If you can hear the motor running but nothing at all works the motor belt is probably broken. Not a job for the untrained.

IBM selectric II carriage stuck in right margin

There is a thin metal ribbon in the back that has come off the wheel. It is a devel of a thing to get back on.

Remove the cover and watch ... you will see what I am talking about.

It may have come un-attached ... equally difficult to fix without the little thingie the typewirter mechanic uses.

good luck

My IBM selectric II typewriter carriage stuck in right margin

Sounds like the return lever arm is not putting enough pressure on the return clutch, or the clutch is slipping. The exp key uses the same clutch but the pressure comes from your finger. Theres no way you can fix this yourself. Get an IBM mechanic.

I have a IBM Correcting Selectric II and I'm having trouble clearing out the margins. Can you help?

space to the right side of the machine, hold down the tab clear key and hit return.

If the carriage stops partway back, one of the tab stops has rotated too far on the tab bar.

remove the platen and paper pan, go to the stuck stop, rotate it to the rear of the machine to line up with the other tabs

Is the key stuck in the down position? If you pull the key off you should see a spring underneath. Maybe out of position or damaged.

IBM Selectric II

The return clutch torque limiter is off or broken. If you take the right dust cover off it is on the turning hub around the middle of the typewriter. a small spring about 1.25 inches long with a hook on the end. I have been fixing these for 35 years. good luck. Lawrence
