Re: nuvi 200

Do you have a garmin home charger.
To do a test , is that working when you connect your unit with the car charger.

Less than 0.9 % of the units has a battery problem. I don't think you have one.

When it's full charge , what is the maximum bars you get ?

I have a garmin nuvi 200. I'm having problems trying to charge the device. I have tried charging it in my car as well as the computer. Once I try charging it a black screen appears that says garmin as...

This is meant to happen when it's connected to your computer but not to your car charger. Sometimes it happens, when connected to a car charger, because the mini USB plug on the charger lead doesn't go in far enough into the satnav. It feels like it's fully in but it's not. If you push it in further it should solve the problem.

It takes 8 hours approx to charge a satnav connected to your computer but only 4 hours approx with the car charger or mains charger.

Nuvi wont turn on

No the red light comes on to show that there is power going to the Satnav. In most Garmins the Battery Strength meter is in the home screen. Generally people leave the satnav plugged in when driving regardless of whether the battery is charged or not.

My Nuvi 200 will not charge and the USB port

My condolences. I would suggest you plug the unit in to your computer's USB port using an appropriate data cable (in case you no longer have the Garmin data cable, there are lots of devices, including cameras, that use such a cable with the large USB plug at one end and the mini-USB at the other). That would give you a handle on where the fault lies -- in the auto charger cable itself vs the nuvi's socket. If the nuvi charges from your computer, you're halfway home; if not, I suspect the cost of repairing the nuvi's USB jack could exceed the cost of a replacement unit.

This is an indication that your map unlock code has either been corrupted or is missing. Please see this link for more information on this problem.

Garmin 200 won't turn on, flashes "Garmin" screen when plugged in

I connected the unit to the car charger instead of the USB charger and then held down the reset for 10-15 seconds, after which the system would show the computer connection on the charger and then boot up when not on the charger.

Don't Want to Buy the Updated Maps (nuvi 200W)

If the PC icon comes up while using the car charger, then there is a problem with your charger or mini-USB port on your Nuvi. Many after market chargers are not wired the same, causing the PC icon to show up on the screen. In this mode, your Nuvi will not charge nor can you use your Nuvi for navigation.

You can use your Nuvi with old maps. No one says you have to update. You'll just get an occasional reminder that your maps are outdated.

Without plugged in my garmin nuvi 200 will not work

That means that you have to replace the battery.

The video on the link below shows how to replace the battery in a Garmin Nuvi:

My Garmin Nuvi (200 I think) freezes..

My recomendation is to use the original accesory for cigarete lighter. I'll give you an example: when I connect my Nuvi 200 to any other USB cable (computer or home charger) its behaviour is like you said - it "says" that is connected to a computer and remains in stand by. But when I connect it to cigarette lighter (but note - the original one) the nuvi 200 recognize it as a car power source and works. The battery symbol disappear from screen and it works perfectly. When I turn off the engine or simply unplug the device from cigarette lighter (not from nuvi !) it recognizez that and ask me if I want tu turn it off on remains on on own battery. If I make no option the nuvi will turn off automatically after some seconds. So it recognize perfectly the car adapter and its behaviour is adapted to a car.

Nuvi 200 GPS

We did not have a charger to plug in the GPS to charge, so my husband plugged it into a battery charger. I guess the battery charger was low, so it drained the unit rather than charging it. It was so low it would not come on again. I have an electric charger that adapts the car charger into AC current, so I tried that and the unit came on. Problem solved and the GPS is working again. Thanks for responding.
