Insert the Vista disc into the cd-rom drive. re-boot the computer. It should ask "boot from cd press any key" at that point press any key. When it boots up it you want to pick install windows and pick new installation. Doing this will erase the old files and do a fresh installation. Sometimes computers like Dell have a set of cd-roms to do this and the process is a little bit different. If you cannot get the cd-rom to boot like I stated above then you can go into the computer BIOS and change the boot sequence so the cd-rom drive is first. Or you can run the cd-rom from windows and pick new installation.

Simply put the Vista disc in the laptop and reboot. When you see the test that states "Boot From CD hit any key" you tap any key. Windows will load and you answer the prompts yes. It will then ask you where you want to install windows and will list the partitions. Choose the "C" drive, but choose to delete the partition. It will ask you are you sure and is will tell you something like press "L" to delete the partition, click yes. You have to do this otherwise you will end up with 2 windows installations on the same partition. Once it has deleted the partition, it will give you another window that will say you have a volume with unallocated space. At this time you need to make a partition in that space and just use the size (in Megabytes) that they list. Once the new partition is made and formatted NTFS, (use Quick format) You will now see a new partition which should be "C" drive that is blank and is now ready for you to install your fresh copy if the Vista OS. Once you say go, it will install and all you have to do is follow the prompts. If you run into trouble or need a hand, go to my web site and call me and I can walk you through it. If you haver a copy of legitimate copy of vista just tell your laptop to boot from the DVD and follow the instructions.

It will offer you the option to replace the current operating system and soon after the the option to format the drive or partition it.
select FORMAT and then let the setup continue until completion.

You should make sure you visit the DELL website and get the drivers for all your hardware and probably put them on a flash drive or similar.

Make sure you choose the vista drivers.

Dell Tech Support charges less than $15 to send you a replacement Reinstallation CD which will format the disk and load all the original drivers.

XP loaded by PC expert to correct crashes - I need to reload the original Windows Vista - I do have the Vista Serial Number

Ok, so someone wiped your hard drive and installed XP on your Vista machine? Thats the best thing that could have happened to it in my opinion. :) The Vista serial # you speak of is most likely on the bottom of your machine. Once someone performs a reformat and new OS install the "restore" part of your drive is most likely gone forever. The only way to reinstall Vista at that point is to have a disk to do it with, then you will have to reinstall all the device drivers if it isnt an "upgrade" and will keep them intact..

This Vaio VGN-NR110E has DVD drive trouble. Disgusted with all the fatware packaged along with the Restore DVD, I used a 'plain' copy of Vista from a Dell desktop to wipe the HD and reinstall. Everything...

you will need to reinstall the drivers for the Sony Vaio once again so that the DVD drive is detected and set.
So please check for drivers for Sony Vaio from this link:

Hi i have a toshiba satellite pro a200 laptop and i wiped the hard drive now im trying to reinstall vista but vista doesnt have the hard drive driver

Hi,
Usually vista\XP dont required a driver for built in HDD. Confirm whether the HDD is detected properly @ BIOS boot up and proceed with normal installation of Vista. If required get the installation screen shots from internet and proceed.
If this still doesn't resolve your issue, please paste in the exact error message you are getting while installation.
Please come back and rate my solution if it turns to be helpful for you. Thnx

Uninstalling Vista Transform Pack

I did some research for you and MS did a number on everyone with this one..you can't uninstall it and even the people (engineers) who were capable to remove it still have some of the properties left over. From what I gathered go to Windows Explorer. Find the Transform Pack folder and delete it and all of its third party packs..one guy even wiped his hard drive and reinstalled, no luck..best is to do the delete from C: drive. Good luck..
