It could be the clutch that's causing the problem or the belt. Bring your vacuum to a local repair shop and have it look at, but it sounds like it could be either one of those problems.

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

The brush control is designed to switch the brush bar off automatically when you stand the machine back into the upright position. It is designed this way to protect any delicate floor surfaces when you have the machine switched on and upright and when you are using the hose.

If the brush control should be in the centre position and move forward to the "on" position when you release the head. If it is not doing this, please contact our Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Kind regards

Have a dyson vacum and the beater bar stopped working. How do you fix the beater bar.

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

Check that the brush control dial is in the centre position when upright and then moves forward when the head is released. If the brush bar is still not spinning when switched on in the vacuuming position, check the base for blockages and remove any threads or hairs from the brush bar as outlined in your user guide or on our website.

If you are still having difficulties, please contact our Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Not a lot of suction

make sure the gasket which is inside the debris bin...you will see it on the bottom, underneath where there are all those small holes. That gasket should be hanging like a skirt off the bottom of that part. Mine shifted probably when clean the debris out and dyson said that causes a chain reaction and clogs up the whole vaccumm...they are sending me a whole new cyclone part (the purple part) so its starts working 100%...check that...I never even realized the gasket shifted! also check the ubend connection in the back there could be something stuck in there...and take the wand apart and hold it up to light, if you cant see light...theres probably something stuck in there!

DC07 beater bar does not move

this is a common problem it moves on air flow, the air flow may be good but there is stuff wrapped around the ends of the beater bar, disassemble bottom of the unit and clean real good. it comes apart real easy :)

DC07 works with the hose - but not when upright

Check the actual brush bar is moving. If it is then there's definately a clog and it could well be behind the beater bar. If you can remove the sole plate (which is the grid in front of the beater bar) then undo it and check dirt behind the beater bar, belt and main dust channel. Also check the main inspection air ways and if the beater bar is clogged with hair, clean it off.
