Card Not Initalized!? How did this happen? Where are my pics?!

Ugh! I took a ton of pictures this weekend and now when I turn my camera on it's telling me "Card not Initialized"... What happened? Can I retreive those pictures? When I go to "format" it says everything will be erased. I don't want that!!! Help!

Are you sure the camera was taking pictures all weekend? Try using a separate card reader to download your pictures or go to a local Walmart and find a Kodak picture maker machine to see if your pictures are actually there.

When you took the card out of the laptop, if you forgot to use the "safely remove hardware" function, the card most likely became corrupted. To restore it, you need to format the card in the camera. This will erase it so I hope your pics are safely on your computer.

If you are using a memory card, take no more pics until you've recovered the photos, take the card out of the camera. This is to reduce the chance of you overwriting some of your "lost" photos. There are many good freeware photo recovery software options that are available to help you recover your photos. This blog article reviews and outlines several of the better ones.

Card not initalized

Forget the computer...the card needs to be formatted in the camera. This can be found in the setup menu. This will completely erase the card so if you have any pics on it, download them first using a card reader if necessary.
