Question about Sigma 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 DG Macro for Canon AF

1 Answer

I was given a N80 with a couple of lenses. The sigma 75-300 lense is covered with sticky black stuff. It has been in southern florida. Any suggestions for clean up>

definately a tar like substance. my dad took meticulous care of his things-so I am sure that nothing would have been spilled on it. More like the sticky back side of tape. I have tried alcohol, but it doesnt do much besides remove numbers!

What is the consistency of the substance? Is it like tar or more like Coke?

Hi have a panasonic gx7been given 2 sigma lenses can i fit to my camera 1 x sigma 1:4.5 F=100 - 200mlti coated zoom lens 1 x sigma mini wide 1:2.8 f=28mm multi coated lens thank you

It depends totally on whether your camera takes interchangeable lenses, and if so, do these lenses have the same fitting ? Your camera manual should tell you if you can fit other lenses to the body - if so, follow the steps to remove the lens which is currently attached, and compare the fitments with this lens and the two others you have been given. If you are still not sure, then take it all to your local friendly camera dealer, who will be able to advise you. Do NOT try to force the new lenses onto the body - this is a sure way to render them inoperable.

Fault finding

some of the older sigma 70 -500 lenses had a little rubber belt driving the focussing. you can access this by removing the mount ring, four screws and two on recessed on the side holding the contact also three screws holding the centre black cover. the belt used to stretch therefore no longer driving the focussing ring.

I would like to use my Sigma 600 Mirror lense on Nikon M80 digital camara body lense was used on a Pentax Super A camara before can it fit

Sorry, no. If it fit onto a Pentax camera then the lens has a Pentax mount. The Nikon (I assume you mean the D80 digital camera, or perhaps the N80 film camera) has a Nikon mount. Since the Nikon mount has a deeper flange distance than the Pentax mount, there are no adapters available to allow you to fit a Pentax-mount lens onto a Nikon camera.

Hi, Everytime I zoom in or out my sigma lense 18-200, there something inside the lense that shakes. In the viewfinder, the image will shake everytime I zoom in or out the lense. It's a 2 months old...

There's nothing you can do to fix this yourself, it must be repaired professionally.

But as the lens is only two months old then it will be covered by Sigma's warranty so just send it to their service centre in your country for a free repair.

Note that if you live in the UK then you also have the right to return the item to the retailer for a full refund or an exchange under the terms of the Sale of Goods Act.

My husband has a Nikon F65 NON-digital camera for which he has an APO sigma 170-500mm lens. I am thinking of purchasing a digital camera for him (Nikon D50). Will this sigma lens be compatible? Are lenses...

Yes, the lens will be compatible with the D50.

All lenses are optical: light comes in one end and goes out the other. There's no digital/non-digital about it.

What there is about lenses is the size of the image circle. Lenses cover a certain area. A lens that covers a 35mm film frame, such as the Sigma under discussion, will also cover a smaller area, such as the sensor on a D50. It's possible to design lenses with a smaller image circle. These smaller, lighter lenses are sometimes called "digital," because they are intended to only cover the typically smaller digital sensor. Using such a lens on a full-frame or film camera will produce dark corners. This is NOT an issue in your case.

Unfortunately, there are electrical differences between early and later Sigma lenses. Although the bayonet connection is the same, and the lens can fit, it will not necessarily connect electrically with the connections on the camera. Sigma can modify the lens for you, but this can be quite costly, and you may be cheaper to look for an alternative lens.
