Problem for Hampton Bay 24750 Huntington III Ceiling Fan

Ceiling fan stuck on high.

3 months ago, I broke the fan chain completly from the ceiling fan in the dining room, leaving it off, causing me to call it broken, and last week, my son sticked the nails in the chain hole using the stick and the fan went on high, and he stopped. My son might be the youngest person who ever fixed ceiling fan. I have on/off switch which control both light and fan.I need help fixing the chain and taking nails out so I can use them. It's annoying in winter for the fan to be stuck on high while the switch controls both fan and light at night time. While eating in winter, I don't the cold air moving and I don't want the room to be dark.

- The electricion fixed the chain and pulled the nail out of the old chain switch. Now I can put it on any 3 speed. I hope I don't break the chain again.

- My daughter kept flattening the tire on my son's bike so he went into her room and took all of the nails and started sticking them in the chain hole. The fan started blowing all of the paper off of the pile and made a huge mess. I had to clean up and I missed the train to the meeting. What a domino effect and I missed a train because of my daughter.

I think he/she means that the wall switch controls both so only need to replace the broken fan switch. The people at the hardware store should be able to match your switch up with a new one.

Make sure you turn off the breaker that powers the fan and light before you take it apart!!

You son is lucky he didn't get shocked or worse....

The fan usually has two holes for separate switch control. See if there is another hole on the opposite side that a switch can be added for separate control. Then go to the hardware store and buy fan switch with pull chain. Ask for help finding them, they have them in the special switch section of lamp parts. Install new switch (es) and wire the one the way it is. Add the new one and take the light or fan wire out from the old switch and put it to the new switch.

" I bought a chain switch and called the electriction to fix the chain so the fan can be medium or low, or off when the light is on. " - jonahmust871
