It's the mic or radio like you said try this
unplug the mic the RX (receive) will stop
working there are 4 pins take a small screwdriver short one pin at a time to the
side of the plug an watch the meter if you
find one that makes the meter jump over
then your mic is bad.last if that don't work
then short 2 pins together and not to the side
of the plug. there is nothing that will hurt you
or the radio.hope this helps.I have worked
with radios and outher electronics for over
22 years. Good Luck

Wont trasmit..tryed new mic..worked for 2 weeks now dont work again

If you have never tuned the antenna for best SWR, then you have probably destroyed the radio.

The antenna needs to be tuned for the radio. If this is not done then RF energy that should be transmitted from the antenna does not leave the antenna will be reflected back into the radio and it destroys the final output section of the radio.

It is reparable. You must either send it back to cobra, or take it to a tech. The Final output transistor needs replacing. Possibly more.

After you get the radio fixed, or purchase a new one, read the section in the manual about SWR. It will explain the entire SWR procedure.

If you would like I can post you the procedure as well.

Need instructions on how to swr my cobra 29 ltd bluetooth

You insert an SWR meter in the antenna line, usually one end goes into the Antenna OUT socket, and the Antenna plugs into the SWR meter, you then tune you antenna coupler, inductor, & final PA, in the final stage, until you achieve a 1:1 SWR reading, this is however quite hard to achieve, so simply tune for the closest 1:1 SWR that you can achieve.

I also have another cobra 29 ltd classic and it works fine but i cant talk or hear what other factory cb's can hear, it is supposed to be tuned and peaked and i have a wilson 2,000 antenna, and i cant talk...

nearly all problems are caused by poorly tuned or untuned antennas. a good antenna system with a cheap stock radio will out perform a great tuned radio with a bad antenna system any day of the week. if you dont believe me, check the firestik antenna website's tech notes. or wilson's tech notes.

I have a Cobra 29 LTD with Bluetooth. I have no static no matter where I set my squelch and RF gain unless my noise blocker is off. Both my rx/tx and antenna lights turn red when mic is keyed. I have try...

if the antenna warning indicator is lighting during transmission then the antenna is either located and.or installed improperly or a defect exists in the antenna mount or the feedline itself, including connectors.

Cobra 29 ltd classic side mic

First off I dont believe anyone to peek and tune but anyways. Make sure your mike is for the radio wiring. Next the guy that rigged it up might have gave you all the channels do all your knobs work??? usually you can tall as you get someone to talk with you a few blocks away and start, start turning and flipping switches till you can hear him most likely the guy that did the work on it messed it up. for a filter use a farite choke from radioshack on the mike wire.

New Cobra 29 ltd

Hi,

Appreciate the direct "Ask Me". If I may clear up your concern:
  • you have two CB radios, one is a Cobra 29LTD and the other?
  • both have received and both do not transmit;
  • you have two trucks, one with a Firecracker 1000 antenna, and the other?
In any case and initially, TX (transmit problems) could be caused by:
  • defective PTT/mic;
  • defective finals/drivers;
  • defective PL-259 connector/RG58 Cable;
  • antenna grounding/SWR;
  • other electronics internally
Please check the above. You may need an SWR meter, a watt meter and a DVM/VOM to perform the tests.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Hello candy_72_99,

Hello candy_72_99,

If I am correct what you are saying is that your radio has poor modulation? ok. First I need you to run two tests for me.

1) Power output Test: connect a power meter to the antenna jack and the other connector of the meter to the antenna, Key up the mic and record the power reading is should be 4W PEP or 36.02dbm

2) Then I want you to take an oscilloscope and put a 1khz tone in to the mic while measuring the RF output at 100% modulation the wave form should not clip.

If these two test are good then your modulation is ok. What I believe you are asking for is more power or better power efficiency.

Try to tune your antenna for 1:1.0 or 1:1.2 SWR with a SWR meter this should deliver the full power to your antenna.

I hope this helps

Thank you,

Shuttle83
