Question about Sewing Machines

1 Answer

I have a new bernina sewing machine - when I plug it in the computer and lights turn on, but when I press the foot pedal, nothing happens. Is there some other switch or control I need to set?

If this machine is new and you have checked in your manual and are convinced you are doing everything correctly, I suggest a phone call to the shop where you bought it first, they may offer a solution straight away or have you come in to the shop to show them the issue...if it is a fault they are best placed, and obliged, to resolve it for you

check to see if any thread is jammed inside the right turning side wheel in the core area at times there can be thread that flies in there and may stop the main belt turning.

The handwheel will turn manually but it will not move using the foot pedal. The sound it makes when I press on the foot pedal *sounds* like I am filling the bobbin.

Bernina 1030 starts by itself and runs very slowly some time after parking the needle at the top

This is most likely a fault in the foot control. Normally supplied with this machine is a Type 10 and this can be fixed quite easily but probably not by the machine's owner unless you have some electrical and mechanical experience.

If you have knowledge of and access to a multimeter, you can test it. What working properly, you will find the following:
Pedal released: resistance is infinite (anything around 4k Ohms or less and the machine will run).
Heel pressed: resistance is about 10k Ohms.
Toe steadily pressed from nothing to all the way down: resistance is infinite then after a small depression, jumps to about 4k Ohms steadily decreasing to zero as the pedal reaches all the way down.

Your problem, being at the point where the pedal isn't pressed suggests that there's some contamination in the pedal. It's also possible that you have a type 365 pedal (as used on the 930) and this is more likely to give this kind of trouble due to the use of carbon brushes in this foot pedal.

Is it plugged RIGHT into the machine? Is there something caught underneath the foot pedal? might be time for a check up at your local sewing machine mechanic.

Foot control has no power

I've just fixed this problem by replacingthe main capacitor in the foot pedal. I have a Bernina 830. I needed a soldering iron, and I had to buy the right capacitor, but it fixed this exact problem. Btw, a few months ago this problem initially appeared (on my machine) as an issue where the speed was either zero, or full speed). After a white it wouldn't work at all.
