PC do not recognize DVD drive and do not show it on screen anymor

When clicking on Start, then Computer - my Toshiba laptop do not recognize HD-DVD drive any more. Was working perfect just yesterday, but now it just disappeared from the screen as if it does not exist any more. All I see is Vista(C:) and data (E:). Where the disc drive (F:) disappeared? When I try to play any disc, the drive spins, green light is on, but nothing happens. Can anyone explain how to find out why laptop do not recognize DVD disc drive and hoe to sort it? I have Vista Home Premium installed.

Yes, there is an exclamation mark in a yellow triangle on my Toshiba DVDW/HD TS-L 802A ATA Device in the Device Manager. What should I do? Windows can not find a solution online.

Kindly inform if you are able to fine the Drive in Device manager or not... If the drive is listed in device manager, it means the device is detected by the system. Please check if it shows any driver error or yellow exclamation next to the drive name

It is probably a hardware problem but I would go into the BIOS screen which it gives you instructions when your first booting up on how to do this. One inside the bios screen, which is usually blue, find a list of what hardwares are pre programmed in, maybe under drive managment. Almost all computers have different wordings. See if it listed amogst your hardware, if it is, it may be turned off some how, see if you can turn it back on.

Try cleaning the eye gently with a cotton swab and a little alcohol. If that doesn't work after a few cleanings then the drive itself may need to be replaced.

Hi, Please Follow theses insructions:

Go into BIOS upon powering the system keep on tapping f1/f2 to get to the BIOS screen go to boot check if the dvd/cd-rom is detected there if it is detected there then do the below step by step.

Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, Look for Run or Command Prompt, a windows for regedit will come up on the screen select the specified below

Computer cannot find cd disk drive...it is a dual dvd/disk drive...I can play a dvd...but cannot get computer to recognize any type of cd It is a Toshiba satelite u20 pc with xp

I have seen such kind of problem when Apple's itunes or Quicktime player is installed on the system. And it works fine again just after uninstalling the above said softwares.

Anyway, Check out for the said softwares.

If you haven't installed the said softwares then just need to do some configuration. Below is the step

1) click the start menu
2) click on "run"
3) type "regedit" and click ok
4) go to string key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
5) delete "upper filters" and "lower filters in the right side window.
6) right click my computer in the start menu.
7) click properties
8) go to the hardware tab
9) click device manager
10) expand the dvd/cdrom drives
11) right click the dvd rom and click uninstall
12) restart computer

and check if it works now.

Let me know which one works out for you.

You've probably got to have your computer configured to boot from a rescue CD before it can recognize and install the new harddrive. Also make sure that there is an operating system installed on the hard drive . If not it will not do anything until you install one. This will be automatic if you install a new XP or Vista DVD into the computer's DVD drive the reboot.

It depends on a model. Somtimes you've to open all laptop but usually on a new laptops you have to unscrew only one screw. I suggest you to google, how to replace cd/dvd drive on your exact model. Maybe your drive is ok try to disconnect and recconect it. I had the similar problem with Toshiba Satellite A30 and it was anly connection problem.

If im understanding you correctly, you are saying that you are trying to install vista on a laptop but that it doesnt see the hard drive. In this case, try another hard drive as the hard drive may be corrupted. If you plug the hard drive into another computer with a device you can buy from your local electronics store, like Fry's (it'll be called something like a USB 2.0 to SATA and IDE adapter) you can download software (perhaps from the site of whatever company made your hard drive) that will allow you to check the hard drive for errors. Or, better yet, if you go to my computer and the drive actually shows up, then u can right click it, and click on properties. then click on tools tab, then click on "check now". Then once the screen for it pops up, select all check boxes and make sure that they are checked. Press Ok. And let it start. If it asks you if you want to schedule a disk check for the next time you start your computer (this is better) click ok. Then restart your computer and let it work. It will take several hours to do. But it should fix your computer. If it doesnt, contact me.
