2001 Mazda Protege DX 1.6l sluggish when cranking and won't start.

Pull the oil filter & take it apart

I would never go to pep boys,
seems their handy work is part
to blame there

You do your own timing belt, why would
you have someone change your oil?

Where do i find my transfer case and what fluid does it use

1. Be sure to run your car (in 4WD) for about 5-10 minutes or so to warm the oil up and be sure to park on a level ground.First we need to gather our materials. This is what I used for my oil change:Initial expenses
  • Oil Catcher - $10 at Pep Boys
  • Fluid Pump - $5 at Pep Boys
  • 24mm wrench or ratchet (assumed ownership)
  • 12mm? and 14mm? sockets to remove skidplate
Transfer Case Change Expenses
  • 3 Qt 75W90 Gear Oil - $21
  • (I used Redline from myoilshop.com)
tcase1-nggid03733-ngg0dyn-320x240x100-00f0w010c010r110f110r010t010.jpg 2. Locate the Transfer Case.
Remove the Fill Hole plug first, then place your oil catcher in position, and remove the drain hole plug.
While the oil drains, clean off the drain plug.

3. When finished draining, replace the drain plug, and proceed to pump the fluid into the fill hole.
I filled until the fluid overran, but you can check the fluid by sticking a pinky into the hold and checking the level.
Replace the fill hole plug, and done.

No spark spontaneous failure pep boys cannot

as long as you can hear your fuel pump turning on when you turn the key on i would try changing the crank sensor. If you can't hear the fuel pump it is probably a computer problem.

I want to change my thermostat in my audi

the thermostat is located behind the timing belt so you should think about changing the timing belt, water pump, and thermostat. ---- Thermostat is on the back of the cyl head up at the bulkhead, follow top rad hose back and you will find thermostat housing. If you have to ask, you probably shouldn't be attempting it. It involves a lift, draining the coolant, removing the front bumper, putting the core support into the service position, removing the belts, moving the alternator, loosening the mounting plate that supports the fan clutch, power steering pump etc. - all so you can get to the thermostat housing! If you had a Jaguar, changing a thermostat would take less than fifteen minutes. Instead, the Germans audi car made it a four hour job for a professional too.

Overheating

If you have seen the signs of leakage around the water pump thn its worth replacing it being that far already.
Its better too, to flush the radiator.
Usually if the seal blows thts the end of the pump even if it looks ok!

Went to PEP Boys they ran a diagnostic test and said the car needed a tune up. So we replaced the plugs, wires, distributor cap and distributor,IGN coil, Gas filter, air filter, oil change and the water...

My experince with PEP Boys is they do not honor their warrenties. But I would go back and complain about the car running hot since the only part of the cooling system they didn't change was the radiator they did something wrong. It should not be running hot. Is the cooling fan running? If not they probably didn't reconnect the wires to it or broke a wire. They also conned you on the water pump, you have to take out the distibutor to get to the water pump not the other way around.

My 98 eclipse is making a screeching noise in the engine

1.Most likely alternator belt is not tight enough or need new one.2. A/C-Power steering belt is loose or need new one. 3. Bearing in A/C-Power Steering Tensioner is going bad. 4. Not the water pump unless you are loosing water all the time. Timing belt runs the water pump & you need to tear down the engine. If so ,you would need to replace the timingbelt, tensioners, and maybe the hydraulic tensioner. NOT FOR $300, more like 5-600. Get yourself a Haynes Manual for 95-99 Eclipse at AUTOZONE,Advanced Auto, or Pep Boys and read up on this.
