Buy a suitable sound card

power the computer up and go into the BIOS then disable the on-board sound in there.

Now install your new card and install the drivers for it.

you should also uninstall and sound software for the original on-board card at this time also.

Unless you love this computer you have to take this mother board to the manufactuer for componant repair.
Could be anything. Diode issue or transister unless you have the schematics for this item you can fix it your self and test, however if you don't love this mother board as you do... might just have to replace the mother board

Modem on and nothing on screen and fan runs loud

It sounds like one of three things. Two are pretty unlikely.1. RAM has gone bad. Really unlikely. Usually if this happens the computer will not boot but beep at you.2. Video Card has gone bad. Also unlikely. Usually the computer will sound like normal except you won't have any video.
3. Motherboard has gone bad. Most likely. The Motherboard has either suffered a voltage shock or has blown a component. The only real way to get this repaired to by going through Gateway / Emachines.

Video monitor says there is no input and to check the cable connections. connections and cable are good. Does that mean the video card has probably gone kaput?

It may mean that the video card is bad , but not always the case. Start with borrowing a known good monitor from a working pc and then test the following ... video card, memory chips ect. Does it show screen ever or only goes away in the middle of boot up? try booting in safe mode F8 key if it happenes in the middle of boot up.

I have an hp pavilion dv7 entertainment laptop and recently it started to stop booting, what its doing now is when i press the power button the screen stays black and all the lights come on and for some...

Start taking your laptop apart piece by piece and test it after each removed component:
1. Remove the hard drive and test the laptop.
2. Remove the DVD drive and test the laptop.
3. Remove the wireless card and test the laptop.
4. Unplug the display panel from the motherboard/video card and test the laptop.
etc....
Continue taking it apart until you have only three major components connected: motherboard (with video card), processor, and memory. If you still experience the same problem, most likely it's bad motherboard.
By the way, before you start, try reconnecting the memory module. If you have two modules installed, try removing them one by one and test the laptop with each one separately

No Video; (hp IQ770) You can hear it booting Properly but nothing shows on the screen. (either the monitor or video card has gone bad) How can I test to see which is the problem?

does this unit have an external monitor connector? if it does you can use another monitor to check t he output of the video card.

other than that....I think you are headed for a repair bay somewhere.

My sound card is gone. I am using vista

what kind of sound card? you might try going to the vendors website who makes your sound card and download drivers for it. If this doesnt make sure it is enabled in bios if it is a soundcard that is on the motherboard and not sperate.

Graphic card ati 1650 pci express on boot up stopped working

Either your graphics card has gone bad or - the PCI Express slot on the motherboard has failed. Alternately you could put the card in another computer and see if it works. you could take it to a local pc shop and have it tested. I work for TechSupportPros of Spokane, WA - I would test the card for free.

Monitor problem......

Hi
e you connected the monitor to the correct socket this needs to be checked if you have onboard video and a graphics card also.
What you can try is remove the monitor cable from the processing unit and than check what you see on the monitor, you should be able to see the self test screen, If you don't see that than the monitor has gone bad. Monitor is normally under a 3-5 yrs warranty so just check that out with your vendor. If you see the self test than you need to reseat the graphics card if there is any. If there is no graphics card than it could be the onboard video that has gone bad. You can chk that by either using a known good motherboard or if you have a graphics card than you can use that.
If graphics card is installed and it is not working even after reseating than try using the onboard video. That should work
Hope this elaborate solution helps.

I have an HP Pavilion a1777c with a blank monitor

If the computer is starts up normally other than the no-video problem (that is, you hear all the normal sounds from the computer and the usual Windows startup music), then you probably do need a new video card. According to HP's spec page for the motherboard used, you'll need a PCI-E video card. Don't confuse this with a regular PCI card which has a different connector.

The spec page also says the board has integrated graphics. so you could remove any video card that's been installed and try booting with the built-in video. If everything else is working properly you can use that until you get a new expansion video card.

If the trouble is that the computer's not booting at all even though it's coming on, you'll need to figure out why. This might be a memory or video problem, although these usually cause some beep code if the motherboard gets into its POST (power on self-test). If nothing at all happens, this is often the sign of a bad power supply, processor chip or system board.
