    Hi
what do you mean by 'machine entered into Diagnostic' and how do I do this?

  • heinke Sep 08, 2009

There is no Resume button on my printer. Is Stop/Reset the same? I have tried the process with this but no success.

  • heinke Sep 08, 2009

Followed instructions and came up with Maintenance. worked through all the options and alarm sounded with each one. Error still there
    Thanks for you help.

  • heinke Sep 08, 2009

Seem to be getting no where!! The printer cartridges do not move so I guess it may need to come apart. I am not confident to do this at the moment but not sure where to take the printer.

    Thanks again

  • heinke Sep 08, 2009

thanks for your help. I have spoken to Canon and have to take it to a service centre.

  • heinke Sep 08, 2009

It did not really help as it was not possible to fix the problem without a technician. i did appreciate the suggestions.

Hi,

You need to have the machine entered into Diagnostic to see what error is this.

This might be a purge assembly, feeder, carriage or just that waster ink absorbers are full.

Thanks.

    Thanks for your response!!

    Start with the printer OFF

    1. Hold down RESUME and then hold down POWER
    2. release RESUME (while still holding down the POWER)
    3. press RESUME twice, then release POWER
    4.
The green light will blink and the printer will make some noise. Wait
until this is finished, you are now in the printer's diagnostic mode.

To select one of the functions below, use the RESUME button and then press POWER to execute:

    # of RESUME Presses - Light Color - Function

    0 - green - Power Off
1 - orange - Service Test Print: Extended nozzle check pattern
    2 - green - EEPROM information print
    3 - orange - EEPROM initialize
4 - green - reset waste ink counter (For the Canon waste tank full error)
There are other options beyond these first 5, but from what I hear they do things that you don't want to mess with.

If you are brave and test these codes, please report back what does and doesn't work for your printer.

Remember... ATTEMPT THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

    Let me know once done.

    Thanks.

    Thanks for your response!!

You are correct, On your model, it's completely different procedure!!

MENU SCAN COPY SCAN to enter “service mode” .

Once you entered service model, test the machine.

    Let me know the results.

    Thanks.

    OK!!

Before that, lets try to reset a counter :-

CANON MP 780 WASTE INK COUNTER RESET
Enter Service Mode : Menu – Scan – Copy – Scan
Select #7 PRINTER in the service mode, and
input “0” at # 5 INK ABS CAPA.

    and

    1. Turn on the printer and wait until the printer is in standby
state. i.e. you can copy or printing. My MP730 takes sometime to
    settle down.
    2. Press MENU key. display = MENU
    3. Press COPY key, then # key. display = SERVICE MODE
    4. Press right arrow key until display = TEST MODE
    5. Press SET key to select test mode (MP780 does not have SET key, try OK key)
    5. Press 8, display = PRINTER TEST
    6. Press 7, display = EEPROM. Wait until it prints the EEPROM content.

Once done, then let me know the result ( It might happen, you can only do one or both ).

    Let me know once done!!

    Thanks for your response!!

    Is that the same error?

Have you tried to reset the waste counter ?

Check the last comment i posted.

Let me know, i am still waiting!!

  • taran_2005

    If problem still persists,

If you tried looking at the cartridges and they did not move when you heard the clicking then it is unlikely it is the print head mechanism that is making the noise, In which case it is more than probable that it is the main paper tractor drive that is slipping when it is trying to print.

    If
this is the case then it will call for us to take the printer apart to
fix, So it is at this point i have to ask if you are confident to take
it apart or if you are going to take it back to the people who cleaned
it and wish to give them a chance to make things right.

    Let me know.

    Thanks.

Alarm light is flashing and Check printer press OK keeps flashing. I have checked everywhere that I can get to and can't find anything except that my cartiridge will not move when I open and close door...

With that one you need to take it to a shop, you have to enter diagnostics to see what the error is, could be the purge assembly, the feeder, the carriage, or just that waste ink absorbers are full.

There 3 light on the printer that able to indicate to user when problem occur. Find your printer error accordingly as below and may solve your printer problem.

37d307a.jpg
1st button light blink rapidly = the printer may be out of paper, so load more paper and press the 1st button itself to continue. Or may be paper jam is occur, so clear the paper jam and press the 1st button light itself to continue.

If 1st button light blink slowly = mean the cartridge carriers are stuck, so raise the scanner unit and remove any object blocking the path of the cartridge carrier, make sure the cartridge are closed and installed properly, then lift the scanner unit, gently push the scanner support towards the cartridge carriers, and carefully lower the scanner unit until it is completely closed. After that press the 1st button itself to continue.

If 2nd LED light blinking = the color cartridge need to be replaced soon.

If 2nd LED light is ON = the color cartridge need to be replaced immediately.

If 3rd LED light blinking = the black cartridge need to be replaced soon.

If 3rd LED light is ON = the black cartridge need to be replaced immediately.

Hope this help.

Printer won't work

Flashing led lights indicate the printer is malfunctioning so we can mostly rule out pc issues. Does the carriage for cartridges roll to left as if ready to install cartridge when you open up the unit. Try this. If it wont it is most likely jammed in avery small way. My own printer did this. It turned out my little 2 yr old decided to play post the tiny piece of cardboard, and after diagnosing for 2 hours, error messages and all i found the tiniest jammed carboard piece with a set of tweezers right in the end near the cartrigde carriage, between the teeth of the paper roller and the carriage. You could get lucky and have the same issue. Also make sure all print jobs are cancelled, and check is drivers and device is actually functioning ok, go to control panel, performance and maintenance, system, hardware, devices, scroll down to your printer, and make sure no yellow exclamation marks appear.
