In order to use the scanning feature you would need to install the drivers and other software that comes with the printer. If you haven't install either, please visit http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=3571755 and download the drivers for your operating system. It should come with some sort of imaging suite that would allow you to scan documents and save them to the computer.
the scan function won\'t work on my HP Deskjet F4280. When I press the scan button, all that happens is the light on the power button starts flashing. Any assistance would be much appreciated
Are you using Vista? I know that the Scan button doesn't work with Vista. There's a way around it though (if Vista is the problem.) Click the Windows Vista icon, click All Programs, and then click Windows Photo Gallery (mine was in a subfolder.) Click File, and then click Import From Camera or Scanner. Click Import, and then click Scan. There is also a similar way to scan with the Paint program.
if you want to scan something and import into computer ..you have to install the driver and the software for it ...and initiate the job from the software into the computer ..this way it will scan and import it in the same time into the library of the software ..in there you ca copy ..manage and edit..
The HP Photosmart Software must also be
installed and running on the computer before scanning.
Check that the USB cable is firmly plugged in to the printer and computer. Unplug the power cord both from the wall socket, and the printer. Wait 60 seconds. Re-attach the power cord securely. Power on. Try the scan again.
Under normal circumstances, a blinking power button just means that the machine is busy with a task. Be sure to let it finish its current task before initiating another.
This has happened to me on several occasions with a couple of different HP all-in-one scanner/printer's. The HP driver/program itself may be in a phase where it's attempting to complete a scan, which would prevent you from scanning anything else. You can confirm whether or not this is the problem by restarting your computer and attempting another scan. You'll get an error message saying the scanner is currently in use.
You may want to try to completely remove the installation files for the scanner, and reinstall either from the disk or let windows install it for you via "plug and play". Then update the drivers from hp's website. See if that resolves your problem.
