Question about Vehicle Parts & Accessories

1 Answer

Hi, Ive just purchased a 1996 323i BMW that has a pirhana car alarm. I have had no problems with it until now, just recently it has been going off during the early hours on the morning and Im trying to work out why. Im wondering what would be setting it off or is there a fault with it? I live on a property and it gets very wet overnight, we also have criters such as frogs, snakes, rats, mice and owls, do you think it could be any of these? and how does the alarm actually work because I can stand out there and touch the car and it wont go off, is there a sensor under the bonnet? or whatever. Any suggestions would be of great help. Thanks, Elesa.

Theres a sendor under the hood that measures shock. If something is jumping on the car that could be the problem, try adjusting down the sensativity of the alarm, it should be a 2 inch by 2 inch box under the dash with a rotary screw on it, try adjusting it a bit and seeing what happens
anything more and you can let me know

yea, you have to get in there and take down the plastic covers and really look in there, laying on your back, looking up with a light, they tuck these things away, and very rarley they post it up under the hood. check it out and let me know

Hi Jim. I recommend checking the electrical portion of the ignition switch. It is responsible for supplying power to many consumers, and is known for causing mysterious air bag lights and 4x4 lights. The switch is relatively inexpensive and not very difficult to replace.

well the problem could be that you have a window down because bmw 7 series have the motion detector in the cars and wind can trip off the alarm. that could be the only thing i can think of that can be the problem. just try rolling up all the windows and close the sun roof.

BMW 330i 2003 model... Recently, the alarm has been going off sporadically... doesn't always happen and doesn't happen at night.... Any ideas? Alternately, how can I disarm the system until I get it fixed

I would recommend checking the hood switch. Raise the hood and lock on the left or right strut tower area. You should see a small switch with a rod that sticks up.try disconnecting the switch and see if the problem goes away.If not you have an interior sensor on the headliner under a trim cover. The cover is clipped on.pull the cover down and try disconnecting the sensor to see if it fixes it.

2003 BMW Car Alarm keeps going off

Hi , you can lock your car without activating the allarm by using the key to lock your car manually ( not the remote ) , the most common alarm fault on this car is the hood switch, if you change this buy one for a bmw Z4 model which is slightly longer and garrentees a contact when the hood is closed, hope this helps regards mark

Hi , to check if you vehicle has an alarm installed open one of the windows , close the doors and remote lock the vehicle , wait for approx 15 seconds then wave your arm insid the car through the open window and see if the alarm sounds , even without the alarm , you car would be fitted with an imobilser as standard , regards mark

Hi i locked my bmw 323i with key pad now it wont

the BMW is complicated since i had a similar problem with mine. the keypad is connected partly to the ECM and the TDS. the connector to the keypad partially gets corroded over time and wont send the correct signal to disable the alarm. Check the connection first. if it is fine. disconnect the power to the battery for 5 minutes to let the TDS reset and try again. if it fails then chances are the key pad is faulty

2003 BMW F 650 GS: Battery constantly dies

Hi,

It sounds that something is draining the power.
You need to get a multi metre (circuit tester) that can measure AMPS.

With the ignition OFF test on the battery for any amp measurement. You should get a zero reading.
If you are getting a reading, you will have follow a procedure of elimination to find the drain (disconnecting each circuit individually until the problem is found)

FURTHER, have you had an alarm fitted to the bike ?

Cheers

Jon
