It may be the dealer changed the wrong battery. To check the batteries and other battery drain issues here is how: With both batteries fully charged simply disconect the + on the older battery when you have stopped for the night. Then In the morning check the voltage in both batterie's. If the older battery is still fully charged then it is O.K. if it has lost charge then most likely the new battery is leaking power through the older one when the power goes down in it. If it is now confirmed the older battery is good then check the voltage in the new battery it should be low. The most likely reason is a faulty alternator although it is charging the batteries when the car is running it may be draining it when the car is stopped so this is the next check. Connect the + on the older battery again. The next night after stopping for the night and with the batteries fully charged again disconnect the wires on the alternator in the morning check the voltage in the batteries again. If the batteries are still fully charged in the morning then its alternator trouble. These checks you can carry out yourself so won't cost anything Replace which ever (if any) is faulty. When you have performed these test's and the problem. These are the most likely causes but their are a few other check we can perform if the problem is'nt solved .Get back to me after you have done the above check's and if you still have the problem I will advise further.

I would have changed both the batteries the first time. Little expensive but usually if one battery is shot the other one isn't far behind. I ran into this problem before only on a my ford , I managed to track down the problem after several days of checking wiring harnesses ect. turned out to be the positive cable lead between both the batteries.
I would have a scan done, money well spent at least you won't be pulling your hair out and playing the guessing game. Some places do scans for free, phone around and find out.

Well there either something staying on and draining the batteries or your alternator isnt charging the batteries.

Sounds like a bad alternator. Drained your battery and when you turned on the lights it took all the power left in your battery. When you drain a battery down that far, they are real hard to jump, and coupled with the alternator, the car is not producing enough current to start and stay running.

I would take the alternator off and take it to oyur local auto parts store to be tested. If bad, replace it and charge the battery fully before starting. Then check voltage at battery with motor running. Should be 13.2 -14 Volts DC. If not, you may have a bad battery cable or blown fusible link. (especially that if the alternator tests good).....Mike

Hi, my battery went flat on my car so i replaced it like you would, but then the new battery went flat within 3 days. i have check that their nothing left on in car what could drain the battery. can you...

There is something on ... batteries do die naturally ... about 1 to 2% a month if left alone, but not in three days. Put a volt meter between the + cable and the + post (remove the cable). Observe the amp draw. Remove the fuses one at a time until the reading toes to zero.

If no change ... consider the alternator ... umplug it from the circuit. You could have a fault in the diode bridge.

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee battery will drain

Ditto here on a 2005 jeep. We bought it new and found the battery dead on a few mornings the first year. Nothing left on. Did the new alternator thing about 2 yrs. ago and a few batteries along the way. This is what we noticed..... If you leave a CD in the CD player, that is the prime little devil that sucks out the juice. Now, we never turn off the car while a CD is in the dash. Now, maybe not necessary every time, but always overnight and now by habit, all the time, we make sure there is no CD inserted when the car is off. Hope this helps.

Akternators for a 12 volt systum charge at 13.5 when running from 800rpm to max ??4000rpm and shouldent change as the alternator put out AC current and coverts to DC in the reg on alt but max of 13.5 is all you need at any time at all revs and the battery will not boil or over heat..
Make of truck dont make any differance and milage dosent either as its the alternator thats either faulty or regulator is.
