Question about Kodak EasyShare Z740 Digital Camera

1 Answer

When I put a memory card in my camera its says it needs formating, so I push continue to format and it comes up with the message read only memory card remove write protection to capture or write to card. The switch on the memory card is in the right position. I think something is wrong with the camera, I installed a brand new memory card and got the same message.

Is this a different manufacturer than your other cards? Is it formatted correctly (e.g., FAT16 instead of FAT32)?

Otherwise, not all cards are compatible with all cameras. There are subtle differences in the IDE drivers on the cards (or some other data structure) and those in the camera, or possibly the firmware version in the camera. It's always safest to use cards on the camera manufacturer's "approved" list.

I have a SimpleTech 2G card which can be formatted by, but will not work in my D2h. The same card works perfectly in a D1x and D2x, and I have no problem with Simpletech 512M and 1G cards. Go figure! I've had no problem with SanDisk Ultra II cards of any size (up to 4G).

What kind of card are you using? I've had to return the SanDisk 1GB Ultra II SD Plus USB three times because of formatting errors on all the devices that I used it in.

Look in your owners manual it may say which brand it prefers or a call to Kodak would be a good idea. You may want to call Sandisk also there are plenty of fakes on Ebay usually in the more expensive Sandisk cards. Doubtful you got any warranty thru that Ebay dealer, just buy a new one locally.

I hope help you with this. Good luck.

First, be sure the card slide switch is in the unlocked position. Then, insert the card, ignore the message on the screen and go into the camera menu to find "format"...then, follow the on-screen instructions.

Hello,

Make sure that the memory card you used is compatible w/ your camera. If same issue persists after using the compatible card, camera is unable to detect the memory card. Card compartment is defective. call 1.800.235.6325 for repair.

Thanks.

My camera wont format card

The card needs to be formatted in the camera, not on the computer. Try going into the camera menu and find "reset"...follow the on-screen instructions.

When i turn the camera on....it saids memory card requires formatting. then continues to say formatting will delete everything on memory card. i press continue and nothing happens. goes back to say memory...

Use a computer with memory card reader, and read the card using a computer.

If the computer says the same and does not read the card, then the pictures inside the card are usually lost.

If computer instead does read the card, then transfer all picture on computer using the memory card reader, and format the card using complete formatting.

If you need to use the camera tonight, then buy a spare memory card.
If the camera returns same error on different card, then you may have a faulty memory card slot, but that is quite uncommon.

Memory card requires formatting- I select continue then it says "formatting will delete everything on memory card-I select "continue" then it reads "formatting" and repeates itself

1. Make sure your SD card is not locked so the camera can format the card. If the camera still cannot format the card, try to format the card with a computer. If this doesn' t work, the card may be defective.

If the computer can format the card, the put the card back in the camera and then the camera should be able to format the card. The camera MUST format the card before the camera can save to the card.

Kodak Easyshare CX7430 losses memory when shut off

I have the same camera and the same problem. Can't use SD cards anymore, only the obsolete Multimedia Cards that are extremedly hard to find on shops because SD cards are the substitute for them... hope you can find a Multimedia Card. At least mine works fine with them.
