Question about SKYPE / VOIP to PSTN (RJ11) Phone USB Adapter (POTHVOIPUSB3)

Zoom phone adapter problems

I have a Zoom 5900 phone adapter for Skype. The software is installed OK and Skype works through the mic+speakers. The Zoom is supposed to enable me to use my normal phone for both land line calls and Skype. When connected it cannot send or receive either on the land line or Skype.

I previously tried a US Robotics adapter, but that didn't work - same symptoms.

Is there some setting on my computer that is wrong, or do these adapters not work with up-to-date Skype versions?

Any help would be appreciated.

For zoom adapter, calling with handset
Dial 011+1+(zip and number) followed by *
ex. 01112223333*
This is for u.s. calls, just change the country code to the one you need, if not u.s. call.

Well here's a sticking point with the Zoom adapter. You have to initiate (dial) the call through the Skype keypad - you can't just pick up the phone and dial. No matter what your computers settings are, because your phone's dailpad only recognizes a dial tone, but there is no dial tone. It's VOIP. But you should have no problems with incoming calls. I have three mobile base stations (cordless phones) and all ring and I can pick up all incoming calls anywhere. I have an answering machine hooked up as well and everything works flawlessly. But again to call out I have to input the number through the Skype program at my computer. For me, a small inconvience for the buckets of money I save with the Skype service. I probably save in two or three days days enough to pay for the service for a full year! And the call quality is as good as a landline.

Hi,

what you have is usualy called a dual phone

When connecting a dual phone for using skype and the normal land line with the computer we have this common problem that you have.
Usualy the problem is with the audio setting.
go to option on the skype window , ther go to audio setting and there you have to choose both for speakers and mic the actual dual phone that you have .
to use skype from your computer you will have to change this setting again - to your audio card installed on your computer.
good luck.

Connect webcam
Its good practice to disconnect and re-connect your webcam before you start (To reboot the webcam software) - if you have been using it elsewhere the SKYPE software may have difficulty in locating it, even if you exited the previous program correctly.
The reason being, the webcam software can remain hooked-up to a program and needs to be rebooted.
Mine, I just unplug it from the USB and plug it back in to reboot the software.
If yours is integral with the computer you will have to re-start the computer, use a keyboard shortcut or disable / enable the webcam from the Device Manager.

Start Skype.
On the 'Tools' menu, click 'Options'.
In the navigation pane of the Skype 'Options' window, click 'Audio Settings'
Run down the list setting your defaults
Select your webcam as the default microphone.
Make a free test call
Click 'Save'
In the navigation pane of the Skype Options window, click Video Settings.
This will launch your webcam
Adjust quality of picture in 'Settings'
Check the correct webcam is shown as default
Click Save
Test your webcam by making a Skype test call.

Skype microphone

When you are installing the skype software, there comes a time when skype will offer you the option to test your hardware. Here you will try out the speakers and mic, and skype will tell you if they are in skype accepted order.
My friend actually installed it not too long ago, and after the install, I saw that skype gave him the option to make a test call right on the program interface window. We used it, and it made a call to a skype computer voice which advised us that if we could hear her talking, then our speakers are fine, and to now go ahead and speak into our mic, if the mic is working we will be able to hear what we just said into it.
That was a great little way to make sure our speakers and mic were in fact working, and they were.
Try that out on your pc and your friend's pc to test components individually. If you are unable to find the test call option, or the option to test components, you can uninstall skype and reinstall the latest version, which may not be a bad idea to preclude any other weird problems which may be at fault.
Hope that helps.
