Question about HP Compaq Presario V2000 Notebook

File transfer with Dynex cable

Compaq V2000 w XP and new Compaq 6910 w Vista. Data transfer problems. I have a Dynex Easy transfer cable. One end is a flash drive w the software. New Vista downloaded it, old XP refused.
For XP I downloaded a plug-in from MS.com. It will not install
the plug-in. No matter what I try, the 2 puters wont see each other.

I did try hooking up the Dynex cable again and for whatever reason, this time XP accepted the software download. After that the tranfer went fairly easy. The Dynex cable has a regular USB plug on one end, the other end is a Flash drive with the software.
    Thanks for your help.

USB transfer cables are quite special and not a regular USB cable.

A better (and cheaper) option is if both have network ports (Ethernet)

Then use a crossover cable. This is usually much much faster than USB and also more reliable.

Enable file and printer sharing on both computers.
Also make sure they both share the same work-group common examples are MSHOME or WORKGROUP

Once that is done you have a few options.

The better option is to use file and settings transfer wizard or similar built into windows. This will step you through the process and allow you to carry over your email and address book plus all your documents.

Another is to use copy and paste to pick the items you want and move them directly to where you want them (his does not work as well as the FST option but is quick just for documents etc.

Dont try to copy programs as they don't transfer well for the most part.

If usb is your only option then be very aware that USB 1.0 to any USBwill be extremly slow and even subject to failure. USB 2.0 to USB 2.0 is the only reccomended usb transfer method

Purchased a belkin easy transfer cable. When

One of the most common problems is the computer's operating system not recognizing the cable's drivers. This is most common with non-English operating systems. The quickest solution is to download the most recent driver.
If the Easy Transfer Cable isn't working properly, you can try a few things to fix the problem. Make sure that you have installed the Easy Transfer Cable drivers on your old computer with the CD that is included in the cable package. If you did not do this, close Windows Easy Transfer, insert the CD that came with the Easy Transfer Cable into your old computer, and then follow the instructions on the screen. When this is complete, begin the transfer process again.
USB ports might be another cause of the problem. When Windows Easy Transfer asks you to connect your computers with the Easy Transfer Cable, try plugging the cable into other USB ports on your computers.
A more complex problem involves the F5U409 USB PDA Adapter (The USB/Serial Portable Adapter) not installing properly. If the driver is unzipping, but the unit is not working, you need to manually update the drivers. They should all unzip to a file called F5U109 in the C: drive of your computer. Point to this file through the Device Manager to update.

Hope it helps.

I bought a new laptop from Dell. My old on is a desktop from Dell. I have a Belkin transfer cable. It is asking for a transfer key number. what is that????????

Please note that your cable will support below givne O/S check at your end.

One destination PC running Windows 7 (32- or 64-bit) and available USB port

One source PC running Windows® XP (32- or 64-bit) or Windows Vista® (32- or 64-bit) and available USB port

For Example two Pcs 1 is Xp and other pcs is Windows 7, then try to connect between both .

Another one more option is there for transfering the data between two systems either laptop or Desktop by a cross cable (LAN CABLE), buy a cross cable from shop and insert into RJ45 Socket (i.e lan socket) the try to transfer the datas.

Dynex Easy Transfer Cable isn't working

You only need to install the CD stuff on your Windows XP computer. It installs automatically for Vista when you plug the cable in. This cable only works for transferring from an XP computer to a Vista computer.
