Question about Acer Computers & Internet

1 Answer

My Acer BL51 shuts itself off after about 15 minutes, then it usually has to cool down to start again. I spray canned air into the vents on the bottom, I can start it again right away.

The compressor motor is over heating and thermal protection shuts it down , when it cools down it restarts. Restricted air flow over the cooling coils could be the cause. Check filter,Sometimes furniture or other things block the return air vent.

Not enough water VOLUME and pressure to supply the pump with a steady flow of water. Water is cavatating (adding air to the water) and the piston is heating up and jambing. Try using a larger size hose diameter and a shorter hose to supply the pump.

The way you describe the problem, with the fan getting noticeably louder then shutting the computer down entirely, sounds like an overheating issue; the fan spins up to top speed to try and cool the system down, fails to do so, and the machine shuts itself down as a safety precaution.

Propping it up might have provided it with a bit more airflow, which may be why you experience the shut downs a little less frequently. I would invest in a can of compressed air, which can be found at any office supply store, and blow out the exhaust vents on your laptop. If you've never cleaned your machine before, dust and other debris that accumulates in the vents and around the fan have probably built up enough to restrict air flow.

Shut the system off, remove the battery and unplug everything. Blow through all the air vents with a can of compressed air. Keep blasting air in there until dust quits coming out. The reason I offer this suggestion is because it sounds like the system may be overheating, as you described. The cooling fans are great, but if the heatsinks get totally clogged with dust, the fans can't remove the heat as quickly. I don't know that this will fix your problem, but it's really easy and cheap to try, and a good place to start.

Our snapper shuts off after 15 or 20 minutes, does start back up after it cools - what do you think?

Could be the coil. Once it gets hot it shorts out and shuts the engine down then cools off and works again. OR it could be that the fuel cap doesn't vent and allow air into the gas tank causing a vacuum lock so fuel won't flow out of the tank. Just need to clean the fuel cap vent holes. Test for spark right away when it shuts down and still hot to find out if it is the coil. If the spark is gone when hot and normal when cold then it is the coil.

Aspire 3000, shuts down after about 2 or 3 minutes. Doesn't seem to be too hot.

If the processor is not getting overheated, then you could have a faulty battery. Or possibly faulty power supply. You can test both with a voltmeter.

ACER Aspire 5720 overheat problem?

Try to keep as much ventilation under the laptop as possible.
You can pick up a can of power spray and blow out the unit yourself or have a pro. do it for you.
Dust and lint play a deadly part in overheating with laptops.
Walmart has Ventilation trays in which the laptop sits and is cooled by forced air from underneath.
Make sure the direction of air flow is the same as your laptop.
You dont want to push air into a output vent.

Sounds like the hi-limit temp switch is sensing too high a temperature and is shutting off the dryer. This is a safety feature and is usually tripped because the outlet air flow is restricted, and resets itself after it has cooled down. Check to see whether the rest of the vent in your house is clogged and clean it. It could also be an inlet fan or blower which introduces air into the drum. If this is not working, there will be no air flow into the dryer, causing excessive heat in the non-moving air in the dryer.
