It seems that you might have damaged the screen.
There are several 3rd party replacement screens (both top and bottom) for the Nintendo DS, if your damaged DS isn't under warranty.
A replacement touch-screen is about $20 ~ $50. They're pretty easy to replace if you're VERY careful and have the right tools.

I think you may have one of your settings too low on your PC.
Try - Internet TOOLS
Browsing History - SETTINGS
Disc Space to use - You need this to be at least 50Mb - possibly more in your case.
Then try again.
Try deleting History and Tempory files on exit (check box)
