Default settings for the WRT54G can be performed by pressing the
reset button for at least 10 seconds and then release it.

The router can be accessed by opening internet explorer:
type in adres and enter.
The login for the router default settings is:
user: [leave blank]
password: admin

There are about 10 versions for this type router on the Linksys
support site, "Get Downloads" like manual and firmware :

Note: from the support page select your version first

Some old receivers including laptops will not connect to some new routers and access points, you can do one thing to solve this problem, access your router with typing this address in explorer (may be different, check your network connection status details to know default gateway)
then decrease your wireless channel from 11 (9 or 6)
then try to connect again, if still not ready replace your router and check again

  • If you have forgotten your LinkSys router password, the easiest thing to do is to reset your router to the factory default settings.

To restore the router configuration to factory defaults, hold the reset button on the unit for 30 seconds.

Once your router is hard reset, you will need to login and reconfigure it again.

To reconfigure your LinkSys, connect a PC to one of it's Ethernet ports, load a web browser, and go to the URL This will take you to a popup box which asks you to enter a username and password to login to your router.
    LinkSys Default Password

On older LinkSys routers, the default username is blank and the default password is "admin." On newer Linksys routers, both the default username and the default password are set to "admin."

Once you are past the login screen, you are able to reconfigure the LinkSys router.
You want to go to the management tab and change the administrator password to something else to keep others from accessing your router.

After changing the administrator password then you will need to enable WEP or WAP security so your nosy neighbors aren't tapping into your wireless network. I am picking up 4 networks with my pc antenna.

    Hope i was helpfull.

Had laptop reset to factory settings now i cannot get internet

You need to put the correct credentials in Your Wireless connection settings on your Laptop. Example: SSID Name, Type of Connection, and Key. If you do not know your settings you may have to get a Network cable and connect directly to the Router and then log in by typing whatever IP address the Router defaults to. Usually Linksys is or You would put that IP address in your browser like a URL. Then it will ask you to log in and then you will log in as whatever the defualt user name and password is. You can find more info at the Linksys website.

Can't get to IP address to fix 323 error on Linksys WRT54G2

If admin password is not working, it might have been changed to something else. Try to type any password that you can think of. If none works, you need to reset the router by pressing the reset button at the back of it for 30 seconds, then unplug the power for 30 seconds, plug it back in then try to access the page again, that should do it for admin as the password, no username.

Linksys WRT54G not seeing internet connection

Who is your Internet service provider, and do you have cable or DSL? You said you have your PC, Xbox and DVR all hard-wired and working fine; are they currently able to get online while connected directly to the Linksys WRT54G? What devices are you trying to connect wirelessly to your Linksys WRT54G?

If you are currently getting Internet access let's check the wireless settings in your router.

Here are a few things you can do to verify your wireless settings in the Linksys WRT54G:

    1. From your hard-wired PC, log into your Linksys WRT54G via the web-based interface. (Open Internet explorer and type Note: this is the default IP address that comes on most Linksys routers.

If that doesn't work, verify your computers current IP address information by going to Start (or in Vista it's simply a windows icon), and selecting Run. Type CMD and hit Ok. Now type ipconfig and hit enter.

The default gateway information is the address of your router and should read something like 192.168.1.x.

Enter that address in Internet Explorer's address bar and hit Go.

    2. If you connected successfully you should receive a username and password prompt, again the default username and password that comes with most Linksys devices is admin/admin, however it could be different if you've specified an alternate username/password. If you cannot remember the username/password, your only recourse is to perform a hard-reset of the device by using a small pin and holding the reset button on the back of the router.

    3. Once you're in the router's web-based configuration there will be a section for "Wireless Settings" or "Wireless Configuration", or some derrevation. Depending on the version of firmware you have installed on the unit, it may be under Basic Setup or Advanced Setup.

You'll know you've located it when you have see options for SSID, Channel, Wireless Security/Encryption, WEP, WPA, etc.

This section will tell you the name of the signal your router broadcasts (also known as SSID). You can change this to whatever you like, in fact is reccommended you change to something unique so that you can easily identify your network when trying to connect with a laptop. You can also enable wireless security such as WEP or WPA, however for the purposes of troubleshooting let's leave encryption off for now. Once you've made the neccessary changes, select Save or Apply at the bottom of the page to save your changes.

    4. Now, again since I don't know what you're attempting to connect wireless I will assume its a laptop with an intergrated wireless adpater, or possibly a USB or PCMCIA wireless adapter. Either way you should see your network (with the new name you've configured) in the list of avialable networks, do you see any networks listed? If the laptop has built-in wireless, is the WLAN switch enabled on the laptop? (Usually a small switch on the front or the side of the laptop indicating WLAN, or sometimes a function/fn key combination)

Hope this helps somewhat, give me some more information about what you're trying to connect wirelessly with and I'll see if I can help you out.

WPA encription disappeared, cannot access router

First get the DNS setting of your ISP. If you have activated the internet connection icon on system tray. View its status then i think it support menu. It will give you the details and the ISP DNS. Or ask your ISP provider.

Then connect your Computer LAN to LAN1port of the router thru LAN cable. Set your Computer LAN setting, input your LAN ipadress say then subnet say then default gateway ot the router say it is then in DNS input your ISP DNS. Test it goto router's utility page, input user and pass. Or ping the router, on windows dos type ping enter, you will got 4 lines for good connection.

Now connect the Internet cable to WAN port if it is LAN cable. browse the internet. This is the first step.
