Go to your nearest gateway service and buy for dvdrom drive because your dvdrom drive is a disposable electronic device. In case there is no compatible dvdrom drive to your laptop buy a usb dvdrom drive external. Have a nice day.
It probably will work to boot up your laptop but as the DVDROM is slightly different, you must install fresh drivers. Drivers are available from HP online, you will need the part/model number of the DVDROM. Hope this helps.
Restart your computer and enter set up bios. Try ejecting your dvd rom from there... it that doesn't work, get a pin and insert it in the pinhole on the dvdrom whuile pressing the eject button... that should do the trick!
Insert your bootable Retail OS disc. Shutdown the computer. Upon powering on the pc. Press and hold F12 to load boot menu. Choose CD/DVD then enter. It will load up set up files. It will give you options to create and delete the partitions. It will be user friendly once you're on this screen.
