Can you add a prefilter to an oreck truman cell to grab the larger dust particles and decrease the zapping?a humidifier in the room helps but when the furnace is going it can still be often.

it should have a prefilter already on it. they have a screen looking filter that goes on the front of the cell. If you don't have one you need to get one. You should also have a charcoal filter on the back side of the cell, if not then you'll need to get one of those also, the charcoal is for odors and not for filtering dust. Putting any other type of filter in front of the cell will just be turning this into a filter type cleaner and will be defeating the purpose of the reusable Trueman cell. You may as well just buy a different cleaner if you don't mind buying new filters instead of cleaning the cell. I would recommend cleaning the cell every 2 weeks to keep it working properly. This will also keep it from snapping, if yours is snapping it's already too dirty and needs to be cleaned, if it's snapping right after it's cleaned then you have a plate that is arcing in the Trueman Cell, I have posted a fix for the ProSheild Models to stop the cell plates from arcing.

I just found out we have an enviracaire elite system in the attic which was switched off. how do we clean it? does it have a removable filter? Model: 2084175 120 vacd 60HZ dim: 18 x 25 -- thanks -- ...

CLEANING PREFILTER(S), CELL(S) AND POSTFILTER(S) CAUTION Sharp edges. Can cause personal injury. Carefully handle cell(s) or wear protective gloves to avoid cuts from sharp metal edges. Setting a regular cleaning schedule To ensure optimum performance from the air cleaner, the prefilter(s) and cell(s) must be cleaned regularly- twice a year with normal use or more frequently with heavy use. Use the wash reminder schedule below to help establish and maintain a regular cleaning schedule. Mount the wash reminder schedule in a convenient location. NOTE: You may let the heating or air conditioning system operate normally while the cell(s) are being washed. Simply turn off the air cleaner switch. Cleaning your Prefilter 1. The quickest and easiest way to clean your prefilter is to use the brush attachment of your vacuum cleaner to vacuum the lint off the dirty side of the prefilter. Greasy dirt may require soaking the prefilter in a tub or rinsing with the garden hose. Do not wash the prefilter in the dishwasher or car wash 2. The prefilter should be cleaned every 6 months or more frequently with heavy use. This will keep the prefilter clean of air choking lint that can make your system work harder. Vacuum the prefilter with a brush attachment, rinse it with a hose, or soak it in a tub. Do not wash the prefilter(s) in the dishwasher or car wash. Cleaning your Cells 1. A quick cleaning of the cells can be done by simply wiping down the ionizer wires with a damp cloth. This will help boost the efficiency of the air cleaner between full cleaning cycles. Ths quick clean can be done every time the prefilters are cleaned. 2. A full cleaning of the cells will return the air cleaner to its peak efficiency. An easy way to wash the cells is in a tub of hot, soapy water. Just soak the cells until the water cools, agitate and rinse. For details on cleaning cells, see below for Washing the cell(s) in a tub or Washing the cell(s) in your automatic dishwasher. 3. Because the efficiency of the air cleaner remains high even as it loads up with dirt, a full cleaning of the cells can be put off for yearly maintenance and a quick cleaning can be done more often. Those wishing to renew to peak efficiency or with heavier use may want to wash more frequently. Replacing your Postfilter 1. The postfilter is an optional filter that boosts the efficiency of the air cleaner. Do not wash the postfilter because that will neutralize the factory applied charge. 2. The postfilter should be replaced every six months to ensure peak performance.

Dear Expert, I do hear scary sound like a electric spark once in a while, and then stop. Should I turn off the switch? Thank you.

Arcing (snapping) seems too frequent

1. If the electronic cell(s) are wet from washing, turn the air cleaner off for two to

three hours.

2. Check the cell(s) for broken ionizer wires or bent plates. Repair if necessary.
3. Wash cell(s) and prefilter(s) if dirty.

Are there filters that have to be changed and where do you get them?

Yes. You will have a prefilter and after that you will have a HEPA filter. Keep good maintenance on the prefilters which are not washable. You will need to check it once a month to see if it is time to replace. If you have good maintenance on the unit and change the cheaper prefilter, you will get years of service out of you HEPA filter. Bad maintenance means replacing the HEPA filter which is a good chunk of the cost of the purifier.

Kenmore AC2044-1 question ASAP!

If it says "Clean Cell Now" and it is a new machine, it is broken. I have six, yes six, of this model. They are all new and you shouldn't have to clean the filter/cells for a few months.

The way to clean is:

  1. Unplug
  2. remove the white cover
  3. remove the prefilter. Good time to clean the prefilter by removing the 2 retention clips and gently swing the prefilter outward. Clean or groom it with a vacuum. Use the upholstery brush. wash the prefilter in warm, soapy water. No Chlorine! Rinse clean with regular water. Wipe with a paper towel and let dry completely. It is okay to gently use a hair blower to speed up the drying process.
  4. Onto the Cell.
  5. The cell can be washed one of two ways. Either in a hot tub of water or in a dishwasher.
  6. Wear gloves to protect your hands. Never touch the fins or wires. It will ruin them and cut you up. Use the two handles.
  7. Use hot water and dish detergent.
  8. No chlorine and no abrasives.
  9. Soak for 10 minutes, then dip a couple of times to remove stuck dust/dirt/schmutz.
  10. Rinse with clean water.
  11. Allow to dry
  12. Allow to dry
  13. Allow to dry
  14. Okay to use a hair dryer to speed up process.
  15. Reinstall
  16. Power up
  17. Press and hold CHECK button for 3 secs to reset.

Thanks.
