This water has to be coming from the ice maker. This will be due to a bad seeping water valve. The seals inside it are bad allowing it to seep. Replace water valve. Now to address the fridge not running. Be sure it has not advanced into defrost. If it does not start running within 30 mins. this will mean that your timer is a time accumulative advance type. This means that if the element has gone bad, it cant continue to send power to the timer when in defrost. Therefore when the timer does go into defrost, it can't advance it's way back out due to the lack of power from the element. This mean you have a bad element and or termination thermostat. I suggest you replace both. normally after you replace one, it's not long before the other goes bad. These three parts being replaced should fix your problems. Do remember I'm trying to diagnose your problem without being there and with little information to go on.

If you are sure the sound is coming from the freezer side, then yes you should empty the frrezer and take off the rear shield. While the heating element is normally encased in glass or plastic. Water droplets hitting an electrical connection could also cause a sizzling sound.

This is a new fridge and the element located in the lower freezer behind the pull out drawer is red hot with water dripping on it? we had the same problem with our old fridge and this is why we replaced...

the element you see in the back of the freezer compartment is the defrost heater. your frig will defrost 2-3 times every 24 hours for 15-30 minutes. when its in a defrost cycle the element will get hot and melt the frost that has built up on the cooling coils from normal operation. the melted frost will then drip down ..some will hit the heater and sizzle, most will drip onto a tray and go down a small drain into a pan under the frig and then evaporate out.. Also ,it doesnt defrost at the same time each day., it is based on how much the frig runs and the electronic control will figure out when it it time to initiate a defrost..the red glow and the sizzling is normal and only lasts a short time....

I have an amana 18 top freezer that is about 15 years old. I am getting water on the floor of the refrigator, i have unplugged it for 24 hours, and it still does it. No water is in the pan. What do i do as...

No water in the drip pan, water in the refrigerator - this is a classic case of defrost drain issues. If your unit has a little drip cup at the back of the refrigerator (inside) you will notice a hole above it, this is the drain coming from the freezer - When defrost cycle kicks in the heating element melts the frost on the evap coils above it and water drips through the hole and inside your cup in your refrigerator - then it should drain through a tube that extends to the back of your refrgierator through a hole, from there water drips down the drain tube down the pan at the bottom above the compressor so it can later be evaporated with the heat.

What you have is a plugged drain tube - water drips in your cup and overflows down the back of your refrigerator - if you are able to remove this cup and tube, pass a long wire down the drain line to dislodge any debris or whatever is blocking the line - clean your cup and also check for any debris. Also at the back of your freezer panel look for any debris or obstruction to the drain, causing water to back up and leak elsewhere. Once all this is checked, and you put back the cup, water should flow normally and drain fast enough through the drain tube.

good luck

this IS normall. the freezer is just in defrost cycle. the heat elements are on and defrosting the evaporator. you are hearing the water hitting the elements and running to the drain. this is normall, does it every day, just the first time you happen to notice it. shane

Why does my maytag fridge drip water around the freezer door?

Freezer door frames have a small heating element in them to stop that happening. Your element is failed.

Torn gasket seals just cause frost inside, but also cause the compressor extra stress if the seal is bad. This causes the compressor to keep running as yours does. They are cheap to buy and easy to fit.

With a 12 year old one, it is probably time for a new one. The new ones are more energy efficient and are cheaper to run.

Hissing noise in freezer

When you observe this is your compressor quiet? Then most likely your refrigerator is in defrost mode. The water is coming off the evaporator (think of a very cold radiator) as the defrost heater element warms. This element is similar to the electric heating element in the bottom of your electric oven. the water hits it and it will hiss. This is part of the normal operation of a refrigerator. The defrost cycle usually lasts from 20-30 mins and will occur 4-6 times a day. If you are having trouble with frozen food melting then re-freezing, or the temps are on the warm side, you might need to have your defrost timer or defrost termination switch looked at.
