Try tapping with a hammer and using small pipe wrench or vise grips, last resort heat up with torch then use pipe wrench or vise grips.

I think that I over tightened the lock nut on one side (not using a tort wrench) after changing the mowing blades. I don't think it is cutting now. When I take the blades off from cutting, one blade...

there is a star shaped, or other, pattern on the bottom of the mandrel which fixes it into the blade. this has stripped so the blade is freewheeling on the mandrel. if you cannot remove the blade bolt, I think you are going to have to remove the deck and take it to a fabrication or machine shop to have them remove the blade from the mandrel. then you buy a new mandrel and a new blade, at a small engine repair shop, put it back together. take a picture of the top of the deck before you remove the deck belt so you know how to put it back on after you have the new mandrel bolted in. if it is old you may just want to replace all the mandrels while you are at it. they are less than 50 bucks each.

I have a dual blade deck on a Craftman's 15.5 OHC rider mower that needs to be greased. The blades make a loud racket when they are engaged. Any idea where to grease the mowing deck?

look closely and you will see the blades under the deck are physically bolted to the same gizmos which are spun by a belt on top the deck. these gizmos are called mandrels, and that is where the lube has to go. sometimes the top of the mandrel has a grease fitting and you may have to pull the deck safety shields off to get to them, and sometimes there are grease fittings on the bottom of the mandrels and you have to pull the deck off and turn it over to get to them. Then sometimes they are "lubed for life" with no grease fittings and you have to go to a small engine repair shop and buy new ones. if you get the deck belt off and there is any slop in the mandrel, then you are too late for grease and new mandrels are in order. they cost less than 50 bucks apiece. generally remove the deck, the blades, the belt, the pulleys, and a few bolts and nuts and reinstall new in reverse order. replace all the belts while you are at it.

When I replaced Blades Theirs a star shaped shaft that the blades slide on before you place bolt on. I noticed the star shaped shaft is rounded off. How do I repair this? THANKS!

I think you must replace the entire mandrel. Small engine repair shops carry them, expect about $40.00. Drop the deck, take off the blade drive belt, remove 3 bolts, your blade is already off, take mandrel out and install new one in reverse order.

Sounds like a blade is hitting something on my Cub Cadet LT 1042.

with tractor off and key in pocket check blade for straightness if straight then check by moving it up down if loose check retaining nut if nut tight then possible mandrel bearing burnt or shaft bent also check the mandrels are bolted correctly to deck lastly but least likely is a bent deck

How can I un-bolt the Mandrel Pulley from the shaft?

If you have the deck removed from under the tractor you can try putting the blade back on tight if you have removed it and then use the blade to keep the mandrel shaft from turning. It takes quite a bit of torque to break the nut loose on the pulley so a socket and ratchet or breaker bar is the best thing to use. Other than that there is no "special" tool required

I am having problems stripping the mandrel shafts and pulley, can any one tell me why, is this just a weak point or what?

Are you saying the pulley on top of the blade spindle is stripping out? If it has done it once and you did not replace the pulley and shaft, it will happen again. The shaft and the pulley are splined and if they gets loose, it will strip the splines from both. In other words, you have to replace the pulley and the shaft for it to work...and tighten them securely. If that doesn't answer your question, let me know. Dwain

I had to get a new mandrel housing which goes

You have to remove the nut on top of the pulley. With the pulley off, the shaft will slide out the bottom with the blade. Don't forget when you put the pulley back on, the washer/spacer goes BETWEEN the pully and housing, NOT on top of the pulley. Dwain
