You have a broken point inside the timer. I hate to say that there is no cheap solution. You will have to replace the timer. There is no rebuild kit or anything like that to repair the timer. I know of two suppliers where you can buy a replacement. I use these sometimes when I regular supplier hasn't got a part in stock. I checked the price at both for you and found the best price at www.appliancepartspro.com . their cost if $123.08 plus shipping. They ship same day if before 4:ooPM. Their Part Number: AP3020181 . When you go to their site enter either your model number or this part number. If you enter you model #, scroll down until you find the timer, Th part # will take you straight to it. I sure hope this helps.

Load size dial on washer spins freely instead of moving to setting

That setting has to do with how much water is let into the drum. You can get a new switch for that. If you post the model number.

Kenmore washer 90 series continue to fill w/water. Load size won't stop the fill... had to shut off water source. won't get to agitate phase... just want to stay at fill stage... can drain, spin,...

Sounds like the fill switch needs to be replaced. A good way to test it is to set your machine on low fill and see if it fills past 3/4. If it does, it's the fill switch.

Kenmore washing machine top load. At least 25 years old no matter the postion of the dial setting, as soon as you pull the dial out, it starts to agitate. No water in it just towels.

sounds like you have a bad switch. they often have vacuum lines and a bunch of confusing wires (very similar to the heater controls in an older car). if your daring enough to try fixing it yourself just take it apart and replace the main knob with a new one. that washing machine probably has quite a few years left if you get it working again.

Is there a power button on the washing machine? (kenmore top load

You probably have to pull out the dial that sets the water temperature/type of cycle.

to change water temp when a cycle has started, pull the knob and reset the water temp, then move the dial to the desired setting. push knob in. resolved by trial and error!
