One of the 2 clamp screws has shered off leaving half he tread end in the hole. how do you get this out

You need to re-drill over the screw and use a screw extractor or use a tap to re-tread the part with a bigger tap.

If I remember right the axle end opposite the nut is just a smooth round end that you can't grab with a wrench.

You could clamp onto it with vice grips of channel locks, but that would most likely leave some marks on it.

Or try this:
Get a block of wood (such as a 2 x 4) and with a hole saw, make a hole the same size as the round end.
Cut the block in half, so both blocks have half a hole in it.
Now, that hole you bored in the block is going to be smaller in one direction by the width of the saw blade used to cut the block in half.
Assemble the two halves around the axle end, and clamp up with a decent "C" clamp.
If it's right, the block should hold the axle end, and the clamp makes a good handle to hold it from turning.

How to stud your bicycle tires for winter riding

Slipping on snowy and icy roads in winter? Don't give up riding, just add some studs to an old pair of tires.
1. Either get a hold of some old bicycle tires that still have tread on them or buy a new pair.
2. Poke a pin through the thick tread part of the tire to measure its thickness.
3. Find some metal screws that are just a little bit longer than the thickness of the thickest rubber tread of the tires and have a tapering head so when screwed in fit flush with the rubber.
4. Drill holes through the treads in the tires smaller than the size of screws you have.
5. Screw the screws through the inside out in the tires until the are all the way through and sit flush with the inside of the tire.
6. Screw in all the screws making alternating patterns between the treads (ever other tread, every 2 treads, etc.) The more screws you use the longer it will take but in the end you will have better traction.
7. When you have completed screwing in all the screws wrap a piece of duct tape over the top of all the screws to protect your tube from them.
8. Place the tires back on the rips and pump up the tubes and enjoy!
***Be careful, the screws are sharp and will scratch or cut you! You definitely don't want to ride to close to someone or hit a pedestrian with your tires.

Needle clamp

Take a smaller flat ended screw that will fit easily into the hole sticking out the end. Grease the outside of the smaller screw but not the end. Put a TINY drop of superglue on the end and hold it to the part of the screw stuck in the hole. After 30 seconds, gently unscrew them. Be careful that there is not too much glue. (The grease should prevent the glue to sticking to the side of the screw)

Try useing (Wd) 40 or some other penatrating (fluid) Spay it on the metal part of the plug, where the treads are if you can see part of the treads .Leave it soak in for at least a half an hour, Then try it, to see if that loosen them up. Or a anouther option is to try end take them out when the engine is still hot a bit after useing the bike.If that doesn,t work take it to a shop ,End get them to try end get them out for you.Hope this works for you.Were they ever changed (Before)? If they were crossed theaded, That can cauase that problem..Hope this works for you,

How to remove screws with damaged heads.

Depends on the size. Sears has some specialized tools for this problem. Basically, you drill into the worn screw and then put this extractor from Sears into the hole you drilled.

Since the screws have right hand threads and the extractor has a left hand tread, as the extractor jams into the hole and dead ends, it will spin the damaged screw out of the part.

How do you clamp the regulator to passenger door if the window clamps are in the way on a 2003 GMC Sierra? The window clamps won't go down much, I just have to clamp the regulator and crew it down and then...

Its best to attach the regulator to the door frame with the bolts first. Then plug in the motor and run it to the bottom. Then attach window glass to regulator, with the bolts. Do Not run the window up to the top without the glass attached. The cables will run off the end of the regulator channels. Approximately half way up the window to glass bolts will also line up thru holes in the frame. You can disattach the glass and hold it in place by simply using duct tape to the glass and the upper door frame. It will stay in place.

Remove end caps of consol///remove two screws at the end of consols///flip consol up//unplug lid switch///remove two clamps with screw driver they pry out// washer casing will lean forward and come right off////you will now see the pump and motor remove two clamps of pump//there are two clamps on motor may be screws in those clamps look close///the coupler is there one half on motor one half on gear gearcase I use a socket and small hammer to bang each half on//put in middle section of coupler reverse the teardown to put back togeather....If I helped you Please VOTE..if you need more help please ask good luck

My 2003 Subaru Forester reeks of raw gasoline! It is especially bad when I have the heater on, or am idling, and is so bad I have to drive with the windows down and heat off (which is cold in...

you need to look at the fuel line (gas lines) to se if the clamps are loose,theyre about half inch diameter,with clamps on the ends of them with phillips head (star shaped) screw driver heads,if youre not sure just check all hoses with a screw clamp for tightness.even get garage attendant to look quickly,dont leave it ....may catch fire if gas hits exhaust!!!!

Can anyone give me some instructions to add a leaf spring kit to my 2002 4X4 V6 Ext.Cab Tacoma?

This should be pretty close for you since most add a spring(s) are pretty much the same.

Note: Check U-Bolt length prior to disassembly, Longer U-Bolts may be required.
1. Park the vehicle on flat level ground. Set the emergency brake and block the tires.
2. Raise the vehicle so that the tires slightly touch the ground. Support the frame rails using jack
3. Remove the U-Bolts from one side only. Remove the spring eye bolts and remove the leaf spring
from the vehicle.
4. Place 2 C-Clamps around the leaf spring as shown in Photo #1. Tighten C-Clamps against the
leaf spring.
5. With C-Clamps tightened onto leaf spring, remove the center tie bolt using a pair of vice grips to
hold the head of the bolt. “Slowly” remove the C-Clamps to release the spring tension.
6. Note the location of the tie bolt hole in the add-a-leaf. If the hole is not centered, measure the factory
spring to determine the long end and short end. Be sure to install the add-a-leaf with the
long end towards the long end of the leaf spring. Install the new add-a-leaf onto the “bottom” of
new leaf spring. If installing more than one leaf per side, install the longest first, then the shortest.
7. Use a screw driver to line up the tie bolt hole in the leaves. It is recommended to leave the screwdriver
in to help keep the leaves aligned as you tighten the C-Clamps. Tighten until there is
enough space to install the new tie bolt. With tie bolt installed, tighten the nut by hand. Then continue
to tighten the C-Clamps. Repeat this process until leaves are pulled together. See diagram
8. Tighten the center tie bolt to torque specifications provided.
9. Reinstall leaf spring into the vehicle. Install U-bolts. Repeat this process on the opposite side.
Torque Specifications:
3/8” Tie Bolt = 17 Ft. Lbs.
7/16” Tie Bolt = 27 Ft. Lbs.
1/2” Tie Bolt = 41 Ft. Lbs.

How do you put on a new starter rope on a poulan# 306a chainsaw

I'm guessing the pull rope is broken.

First you'll need a C-clamp large enough to clamp the spooler, needle-nosed pliers, a small tipped screw driver and a new length of rope.

The safest way is to remove the rewind assy. cover leaving the spooler in place in its housing, try to remove the old rope with the
needle-nosed pliers and small tipped screw driver.

Next hand spin the spoiler to achieve spring tension (about 5 or 6 revolutions) and using the C-clamp to hold it in place, attempting to lineup the knot recess in the spooler with the ropes exit hole on the cover.

Then you can try to fish the new rope into the hole in the knot recess trying to guide it to the exit hole in the cover (its easier to feed the rope if you singe the end of the rope with a bic lighter and form it to a point) and with a small knot at the other end, pull the rope all the way until you can seat the knot into the knot recess.

Next tie a loop knot onto the other end of the rope, so the end wont be recoiled all the way into the housing. With tension on the rope gently remove the C-clamp and let the rope be drawled in.

If it draws all the way to the loop knot, check to see if the spooler is full if so, (not too full where its binding) pull the rope about a foot and re-clamp the spoiler and install the pull handle.

If it does not draw all the way to the loop knot and the spooler is not full, then you may need to add another revolution to the spring tension in the same fashion as described above.

There are easier ways, but that evolves removal of the spooler and repacking the recoil spring. (not a job for a novice)
