Question about Microsoft Windows XP Professional for PC

Product Key vs. CD key.

Hi again.
I contacted the school IT customer support and she made me feel stupid... First I informed her that I needed the CD key for my office 2000 software. She told me it was the Product Key. So, once I got off the phone with her, I plugged in my product key...which turns out to be my operating system for windows xp. Am I asking for the wrong information. I am trying to get my word program to work after my system crashed. I now have product codes and keys and id's which am I supposed to be using to get my microsoft word software to work properly? Someone please help me understand what is the difference between the product key and the cd key, aren't they interchangeble? And, if My operating system is Windows XP, can't I still use my word 2000 software?

The Product Key is the one found on a sticker on the PC or Laptop for the operating system

The CD key is for Office and is forund on the CD or CD case for the Office programme.

They are not interchangeable as they are for 2 totally different things and your school IT support should've known this.

Yes you can still use word 2000 on XP but the key will be on either the CD or case.

feelings40 is correct but I was steering you away from the product key on the PC itself which many people have confused in the past.

Both usually mean the same thing.

Product key is found on the back of the manual the cd itself or the cd case.
sometimes a seperate sheet of paper is included with the key on it.

you can use your word 2000 !
