Question about Refrigerators
The clicking is from the compressor trying to come on. It sounds like you have a leak and that has resuklted in the system being low or empty of refrigerant.
That will cause the compressor to try to satrt, then when it senses low pressure (Some units have no low pressure switch and just shut off when they overheat.) It shuts back off.
To solve the problem the leak would have to be found, fixed, and then the unit recharged.
The difficulty here is determining the cost of repair VS cost of replacement and if the unit is worth fixing or not.
If you were to contact a typical appliance repair company you could expect a charge for 1) leak detection. 2) leak repair. 3) recharge with refridgerant. to range between $200 to $550 depending on the nature of the leak.
