Question about Admiral 26 cu. ft. Side-By-Side Refrigerator

2 Answers

I have an Admiral GS20B6D3EV fridge freezer and am getting a slow intermittent trickle of water from the freezer which is also forming a lot of ice in the bottom of the compartment. Assume it is due to the auto defrost, but don't have a manual so not sure what to do.

Your evaporator coils frost up in normal use and every eight hours or so the entire unit shuts down and the defrost heater comes on to melt the frost. This cycle last about 20 minutes. The melted frost drips into a drain pan and through a drain tube to the drain tray under the freezer/refrigerator where it's evaporated by the condenser fan.

Your drain tube may be stopped up with ice at the upper end because it drains too slow because it's stopped up at the lower end in the evaporator pan under the unit at the floor. It can get dust and mold in it. Once you get the ice out at the top a little pressure with a turkey baster will usually clear it out. Flushing it out with hot water and clorox may help.
Make sure it drains quick enough to prevent refreezing. . The drain should be located below the evaporator coils on the lower back of the freezer

Each time the freezer goes to defrost water flows to the bottom of the freezer this water then falls through a small hole and down into a tray under the fridge were the condensor is the water is then evaporated from the heat of the condensor and compressor.you most likley have a blockage at the hole the hole is located behind the back panel switch the fridge off to allow it to defrost and the pour hot water over th hole to allow it to clear the opening of the hole

Admiral water and ice dispencer problems

if you're not making ice or getting water, first check for water supply getting to the fridge. if you have good supply, then you have a bad water valve in the fridge. it is right where the water enters the fridge.

Sheet of ice forms in bottom of freezer

Frost free fidges are supposed to stay frost free because the automatically defrost regularly. When they do this they may drain water down to the bottom of your fridge. Look for a tray that catches this water underneath the unit. Make sure yo keep it emptied. If you live in a very warm climate you may be getting a lot of humidity inside. There may be a switch that you can change for lower moisture.

Ice repeatedly forms at the bottom of the freezer compartment. Eventually it reaches the door and water leaks out. Signature Series Frostfree Model HMG51108

Your defrost drain line is frozen up.
Turn off fridge, remove bottom freezer drawers.
Remove visible ice.
Take a hair dryer and melt ice at the back of the freezer at the drain pan.
Pour a water and bleach mixture through drain hole.
This procedure could take a hour or more.

Ice is forming in the bottom of the freezer compartment, and water forms under the fridge freezer. Also the comperssor does not always respond to the freezer setting when the stat is turned...

compressor may not start for quite a time even if you change the stat setting. this is deliberate.

ice on floor of the freezer is caused by the drain being blocked - probably with ice. remove the back panel inside the freezer and melt the ice off with a hairdryer. you will have to clear the drain itself with hot water - needs a bit of patience.

this can just happen with time but you may have a fault on the defrost system which is causing it

LG SIDE BY SIDE - REPLACED FILTER BUT WATER VERY SLOW

You may have ice building up inside the fill tube that is slowing the water flow.  You will have to remove ice maker to see inside the tube.  If the tube has ice buildup, use a hair dryer to melt the ice.  Then is should work fine.

assuming the freezer is cold enough and that you have a valid water supply hooked up, either the icemaker is bad or the water valve is bad, best idea is to replace both.

Several problems with ice maker

i suspect he real problem is that the freezer is not defrosting. its difficult but take off thge back panel in the freezer and see if there is ice build-up on the pipework behind.if so melt it off with a hair-dryer and check also that the drain is clear. the water you have had on the floor could be due to intermittant defrosting
