Engine starts, idles fine, but boggs when gas applied

Starts, but "boggs down" when brought to speed. Idles fine on "2", but when gas is applied, it just boggs out and quits... it seems to run "rough" except at was an old unit that wasnt run for almost two years. I cleaned the plug, and the fuel lines just to get it to start. Now, it starts fine, idles well, but just wont get up to speed when you apply the gas. I have NOT yet taken the carb apart to check for gunk...just need to be pointed in the right direction!! Thanks

I adjusted the high and low motor no avail. This "wants" to run, because it will rev high, then bog, rev back up, then's maddening. Took the carb apart, cleaned it, even though there was no varnish or gunk present...and still it insists on giving me the finger every time I try to coax it to work. I found the cost of repair is more than the cost of a new unit....the ones on sale due to the fall I may just jump the shark and buy a new one instead of banging my head on the garage floor. Thanks for your tips though...
