Nutone CV556 Vaccuum Cleaner -Continuously running

Nutone CV556 Vaccuum Cleaner :
======================
I have been using Nutone CV556 for over 5 Yrs. Today (Sep 08,2009) While vacuuming , after I disconnected the hose from the wall outlet the system kept running. Nothing can stop it . I tried the switch on the power unit (ON/ OFF) , no luck. I looked at the wiring in the wall outlet that initiated the problem, nothing unusual. Any help

Start with this. Unplug the vac to shut off, then disconnect the low voltage wiring at the vac.Plug the vac back in. If the vac still runs you have an internal short on the relay or wiring inside the vac.
If the vac stops then the vac and final wiring is OK and the problem is in the wiring in the house.
Have you removed any inlets for painting or had any renos done or pictures hung. If so undo what you did last. If inlets were disturbed remove them and look for low voltage vac wires touching metal backing plates in the wall or touching the inlet mounting screws.
If you have done a reno or hung pictures you may have pierece the wire for the vac creating a low voltage short which will keep the vac running until removed. I have seen this happen with freshly installed 1/4 round molding along a baseboard

How do I clean out nutone cv556 filter bag?

There are 3 options: 1) Use another vacuum like a shop vac to clean the filter bag while in place. 2) Wrap a trash bag around the bottom of the canister with the dirt can removed. Tighten the trash bag around the metal can and smack or shake the filter bag. This will prevent dust from escaping into the air and on you. 3) Grab the filter bag towards the top where it locks into the can. Pull the filter bag towards the center of the can to fold it into a C-shape. This can be hard to do, so do not be afraid to pull. Once folded into the C-shape, the bag should come out easily. Take the bag outside to shake off any debris. To put back in place, use the C-shape method again, and fold out to form a full circle. DO NOT wash the bags out with water.

How to empty the bag of the cv556

It actually isn't a bag it is filter. The stuff that you feel inside are weights. The filter will get sucked up into the vacuum when it is on and then the weights are supposed to help it drop and shake off. It is a permanent filter and I would not recommend changing. It is a pain to replace and pretty pricey. I would expect at least $65.00. The best thing to do is to vacuum it off with a shopvac or another vacuum with a hose.

I have a Nutone central vacuum model number CV450W that was working great until I recently removed the hose and it now runs continuously until I pull the plug....any suggestions please

Disconnect the thin low voltage wiring between the vac and the rest of the house. If the vac continues to run you have a defective relay in the vac motor housing.
If the vac stops you have a short in the wiring in the house, likely behind an inlet in the wall.
If any inlets have been disturbed for painting or renos lately that would be the first spot to look in the house for a problem. Look for wires behind the inlet valve which are touching against each other or a mounting screw or against a metal mounting plate behind the inlet. Start at the last inlet used. Be careful not to loose the spring under the screws where the wiring attaches to the inlets

Nutone CV-750

You need to determine if this is a problem with the hose or the unit. I would recommend plugging my hose in the wall sideways. This should make your central vacuum run continuously. If the unit doesn't cut on and off it is the hose. If it still cuts on and off it is probably the relay.

My nutone cv556 wont shut off

It sounds like the relay is bad. This website has a pretty good trouble shooting page.

Nutone central vac vx550

It's a known problem. I bought my vx550 last year in July and it stopped working this year in May. On for 5 minutes, shut down, can't run for a few hours, runs for another five minutes, etc. I called the Nutone customer service department and they exchanged the unit for a new one, cross shipped, via UPS. Mine was still under warranty though. It has to do with some defective thermostat or controller in the electronics of the vacuum.

Good luck

Greetings jettin_us,

Normally you can contact the store you purchased the unit at, and if you paid with anything other than cash, they may be able to retrieve your receipt for you.

Once you get the receipt, if you still fall inside your 1year factory warranty, I would suggest contacting Dirt Devil for further assistance. Their contact number is 800-321-1134.

I hope this helps!
