Question about Acer Aspire 5100 Notebook
I've tried everything to fix it but i couldn't.I've tried to format and change from XP to Windows Vista, updated the touchpad driver from synaptics, nothing work, if somebody can help to solve this problem i will be very greatfull. thanks.
vista program not working
There is a button to the left of the ON button above the keyboard that turns the touchpad on and off. The light next to that button should be off for the touchpad to work.

My Acer Aspire 5100 laptop has the same problem.
I really appreciate the above guest's answer. Actually, I found that I had accidentally pressed FN+ F7. the action disabled the touchpad mouse. Yah!!!!

I have the Acer Aspire 5610Z and I had the same problem. I tried everything and nothing worked. I remembered I have the extended warranty so I called them. I felt so stupid after I found out what the problem was. I will share it with you and hope it is a simple solution for you as well.
I am using Windows Vista but that has nothing to do with it. There is a function key on the bottom left side of the key pad that is marked Fn in blue. Hold this tab down and at the same time tap on the F7 tab. This turns the touchpad on or off. There is no message that comes up so you just have to test out the touchpad each time to see if it is on or off. I am sure I knew this at one time but I forgot it so I made a document in word to remind me when I have a senior moment again.
I hope this helps someone else.

You should check the status of the touchpad. Go to the control panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager and look for the touch pad(on my computer it is labeled as Human Interface Devices). Right click and Properties. Make sure the device is working properly. A similar thing happened to my Sony Vaio. Even without the drivers that it needed, it still showed as working properly. Other than that, I would think it will most likely not be functioning and needs to be replaced.

The Function F7 didnt help me, I'd long since tried that. reinstalled drivers and everything. But removing the battery and putting it back in DID solve the problem! amazing! Thanks!!!!

Hey has everyone found what the driver name is for the touch pad aspire 5610z iff you look onto ya device manager it shows on there if you click onto mouse that there isnt no driver there so try finding the driver and installing it by searching for new hardware once you got the driver downloaded.

Had this happen to me and finally figured out that I had accidentally pushed the FN key and the f7 when I held FN and hit f7 it worked again, that is i guess some key to turn it off for what ever reason.
