Infocus IN35 Power Problem

My Infocus IN35 projector won't power up, at all. I have a friend who is an electronic engineer, he has fixed projectors for me in the past but he can't seem to get any further with this one without the schematics (which I guess are impossible to get!) The board is made by Power-One, I can't seem to see a model number anywhere.

Is anybody familar with this brand or have any suggestions to what I could try? I have a photo of the board if this is any help?

Any help would be greatly apreciated
Best Regards

How old is the projector? I used to work on Infocus and they are notorious for making parts 5-7 years out. After that, a discontinued unit is good only till the parts run out...No schematics exist unless you were an authorized repair facility and it was just finding out which board was bad and replacing it--I assume they didn't want the risk of having partial repairs floating around out there. JUST A NOTE: There is a nasty little bugger on the power supply section called a THERMISTER! Its bright blue, looks like a fat capacitor, has NO markings on it and will cause the problem you have! It liked to have driven us CRAZY trying to find a suitable replacement. (remember--no markings, right?) Heh, try one of the major electronics parts houses like Newark or some such...Figure on 5 amps working current--that's what the fuse is rated for. In the lab, we used to laugh and call the thing (the automatic *break* device). Hope I helped you some!---Rick

Check the interlock switch for the lamp door (on the fan bracket). if the switch doesn't work, the projector won't turn on. also check to see if the ribbon cable for the top case buttons is connected well. if still a no-go, it is the power supply (part # 510-2189-00). if you want to try and fix it instead of purchase it, start with the caps. some of them bulge and some tend to dry out prematurely without physical damage showing. start with the large one in the middle. you should at least get 5v from one of the points. you won't get any more unless you get a signal from the main board turning the rest of the power supply on. and there's where the problem may lie.

I have a infocus IN35 that at 100 hours burnt out a bulb. Thinking that it was just a bulb problem I bought a new bulb and it lasted 20 minutes. a shop said its probably the ballast that is the...

It is not a common problem. Ballasts rarely need repairs. Have you reset the lamp hours to zero after installing new bulb? If, yes to confirm about ballast please ask the TV repair shop man whether previously he had repaired any DLP projector. There is lot of difference in technology of DLP projector & TV (except DLP Projection TV). The problem could be in the projector main board. The lamp lights after getting Lamp ON signal from the projector main board. As the lamp ignites the ballast sends the signal of Lamp Lit. If the projector board senses that any blower/exhaust fan or colour wheel is not running then it will send a signal to Switch OFF the lamp. If you are tech-savvy then do as follows to check about lamp & ballast. Remove 5 pin connector from the projector. Connect projector to mains supply. Get a 5V DC power supply. Connect +ve to pin 3 & -ve to pin 4 of the ballast connector from this supply. The lamp should light. If it does not light then there is problem in the ballast (if the lamp is new). To give a chance you can check it for your lamp which lasted 20 minutes. Generally ballasts are made by OSRAM. You can get the ballast from OSRAM dealer. You will need the part number for that. Take out the ballast, it is there on it.

My infocus lp120 shakes - can I fix this?

your description of the shaking still is too vague. The best idea I have for you is to replace your cables if the picture is noisy/grainy. If that doesn't fix the problem it is likely the power supply not grounded properly and possibly not enough shielding between the power supply and light engine. If your image is jumping and flickering, it is also going to be the power supply.

My Infocus projector powered down suddenly while in use and now it won't power on at all. What could the problem be and could I possibly fix it myself?

do the fans come on at all? if no, you need a new power supply. if they do, do you hear a high-pitched whir? if not, the colorwheel needs replacing.

the colorwheel and power supply can be purchased through an infocus authorized service center. try av solutions in ny. they're pretty good.

My infocus lp650 won't power up no lights nothing

One way of telling if its the power supply is apply power to the projector and look at fans on the side. If they don't move then its a power supply issue. I can fix this for you for less then it cost to send to infocus or to a repair shop. Ebay Id is Gtitubro
