Question about Hoover U6437-900 / U6439-900 Windtunnel Bagged Upright Vacuum

1 Answer

Small belt driving the brush...stretched out with hair accumulated in groove beneath belt. Is there a clutch or other means of tightening the belt. Went to store found belt...same size, therefore previously assumed stretched condition does not appear to be valid. I'm missing something. Any help?

You do not by a belt by size, buy it by model only. A new Hoover belt will generally be very snug when installed. As heat builds from use it stretches and becomes worn sometimes as much as 30% oversize. Good that you have cleaned out the hair. Check the end caps of the brush as well. Go to a Hoover service center or retailer and buy the matching belt by model # on the package and you will be set.

Dyson model DC07 the belt controlling the beater bar is not turning but does have tension

Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial.

There are a number of reasons why your brush roller has stopped moving. General maintenance to your vacuum is crucial and will help it work at peak performance.

First things first lets focus on the brush roller. Unplug the vacuum and turn it on its side. Look for any noticeable clumps of debris or hair strands that may be caught in the brush roller. Remove these obstructions, probably best to do so with a scissor if it's hair or long pieces of carpet fibers. After removing the debris try manually rotating the brush roller to uncover other hidden clogs. Another thing to take note of is the condition of the bristles on the roll itself. Are they loose or worn down? These are signs that your brush roller is in need of replacing.

While checking out your brush roll you might as well take a look at your vacuums belt. Your belt should be replaced about every three months. After regular usage, the belt will stretch out, lessening the tension on the brush roller. Lesser tension diminishes the brush roller's turn rate and speed. If the belt feels loose then it certainly is affecting your vacuums suction as well as your brush roll not moving at all.

How do i know if the belt needs to be replaced in my hoover spin scrub

Remove the brush cover. Check belt for cuts or stressed areas.
Is the belt taut or stretched to the point of being loose. If you see
any of this replace with the correct size. Pull brush bar out of the
side slots and remove belt from motor pulley. Place new belt on
pulley and onto grooved area on the bar....stretch forward and
push back down into side slots. Remember....groove in brush bar
must line up with pulley. This is also a good time to remove hair
and other stuff from the brushes and bar.

Dennis

Brush won't spin when carpet cleaner is running

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
If the vacuum cleaner brush is not spinning, the brushroll bearing might be jammed. Try removing the brushroll assembly and cleaning all hair, string, lint, etc. from the brushroll bearing. If that doesn't solve the problem the brushroll may need to be replaced.

The beater brush doesnt work on the carpet and makes a loud squeeking noise. It looks like the brush sticks out past the base and gets stuck on the carpet . Works good on the bare floor.

It seems that your drive belt for the beater brush is stretched. This is a common problem -- if you flip the vacuum over so you are looking at the bottom, you should see several screws holding a faceplate in place. Unscrew these, and you should be able to get access to the beater brush and belt. Pull on the belt a little -- if it has a lot of give, or seems stretched or cracked, replace the belt and your vacuum should be fine. If it is not stretched or cracked, move the belt and look between the belt and where it holds onto the brush (there should be a little groove that the belt is sitting it). If there is a lot of debris or hair (I have long hair and this happens to me quite often) between the belt and the brush bar, clean it out, and you should be good. The squeaking noise leads me to believe that the belt is stretched and could be replaced.

Vacuum has burning smell like a belt but cant figure out how to tear apart

If you flip the Dyson upside down you will see moz-screenshot-2.png

First job is unscrew the 3 retainers (arrowed) they turn a quarter turn.

If your belt hasn't snapped it will need pulling off the motor shaft

c220dbe.png
The brushbar can now be pulled out (this brushroll had a groove scored into the side of it caused by a hair grip its visible just to the left of my thumb)

c633e87.png
With the new belt positioned on the new brushroll insert it into the hole and locate brushroll
(To make the belt easier to locate on the motor shaft give it a bit of a stretch)

Ensure these lugs are located correctly

Pull the belt over the motor shaft

Refit the soleplate cover and tighten three screws

Before switching the machine back on rotate the brushroll to make sure the belt hasn't been trapped between the soleplate.
I hope this helps and good luck!

My dogs hair often accumulates in the spinning rod

Try spinning it by hand with no belt. If it is tight, dismantle the bearings at the end and clean out the hair . If it is loose then the problem is likely that your belt has stretched, Buy 2 genuine belts and keep a spare on hand. For best cleaning results , replace every 3- 4 months ( broken or not) , if you have a lot of pet hair

Cleaned out hair, etc., but brush still doesn't rotate...makes a ratcheting noise.

You probably need to change the belt. Even though the belt my look okay it can be stretched and therefore not turning the brush. You can find the DC07 belt on www.vacbelts.com. If you have the DC07 with the clutch system you need these belts:
http://vacbelts.xps.convina.com/dyson-clutch-system-belt.htm
If it doesn't have a clutch then you need this belt:

Same thing, brushes dont spin unless vacuum is tilted back

I had the same problem. Checked the belt, pulled out all the hairs, cleaned the hoses, but the agitator brush wouldn't spin at all or only marginally. Finally I removed the agitator brush altogether and found crud and accumulated in the small groove at the ends, creating friction. I cleaned it with a small knife (not the most technical of tools, but the only thing small enough I could find to fit in there, especially since it seems there's no way to pop off the end caps and clean them properly). This seems to have solved the problem for now...although I still can't seem to clean it enough to get that same 'pull' back. Good enough to clean up after three black dogs, though, since NOT vacuuming is NOT an option.

Belt Stretched on my Hoover Windtunnel Farrington upright model U6431-900

hi, In order to to replace the V belt the one that turns the brush, One must take off the bigger belt " drive belt" that goes over that hugh wheel towards the back. When a belt gets stretched they will not turn the brush very well. If you have bought replacement belts the bigger belt Drive comes 2 in a package. Then you have your little V belt that helps turn your roller brush over. Yes the belts don't last long on my hoover. For kpatr22101 When you rpelace that V belt it goes over the roller brush into a little groove on the brush and then over a plastic round wheel then you must put on that bigger drive belt that must fit over that hugh wheel towards back and smaller on in front. Yes it is hard to get on. the I hope this helps. Cindy G.

Roller brush won't spin (bissel 6390/3910 series)

I just fixed mine. It took me all of 10 minutes. Pull the brush out. Stand the brush on end on the edge of your study work bench/table top. while holding the brush vertical( on end) take a small phillips screwdriver and tap using a hammer on the metal pin you see in the middle of the brush. Keep tamping and the whole assembly will come apart. What you will have then is a long metal shaft, 2 bearings(they are acutally skateboard wheel bearings same number same make). Clean the gobbed up hair with a razor blade and then reassemble by tapping back together. The bearing wont be worn out because they are way too tough for a vaccum. We used ride down hills on them! a ten minute fix wow and you wont have to drive to vacuum shop and spend $$ and time
