This is usually a corrupt Widows software problem, but it could also be a failing harddrive issue. What you're seeing is a DOS prompt meaning Windows hasn't loaded yet.
If you know how to boot from a Windows installation disk, do that and go past the first "do you want to repair" offering until you reach the point where the system says it found a previous installation of Windows and would you like to repair or install new. Select repair and let the process run. It will eventually reboot and load the repaired Windows. It it doesn't, your harddrive is probably failing. Replace it and install Windows and all of the appropriate drivers for your laptop.
If this is beyond your ability, take the laptop to a reputable shop and they will do the repairs. No amount of restarting is going to fix the problem. The repairs noted above must be done..

Check you hard drive connections and make sure the drive is connected properly. If it is load your windows disc and run a repair installation of windows. If it does not show a windows partition or will not load the repair it means the hard drive needs to be replaced.

Laptop was beeping with screen black on start up

Your battery is perhaps out of charge. verify it is holding charge.
The Dell Inspiron 15r n5110 battery appears to be notorious.
Check step 5 in the video below.
For the newer ones that have the battery on the bottom, look on the battery for a little white rectangle with 5 lights on it. There will be a button next to them. Push it. The lights will come on. The number of lights will give you an estimation on how much it has left.5-Full. 4-80%. 3-60%. 2-40%. 1-20%. None-0%. If it is a half, the lights will stay on and the last one will blink. 4+1=90%. 3+1=70%. 2+1=50%. 1+1 =30%.

Please go ahead and power off this system and when you power it on at the Dell logo, keep tapping the F2 key repeatedly for 3-4 times this will take you to the system set up. Please check the AC adapter type and Battery health under Advance tab.

Please follow the steps below within operating system (assuming windows) and let us know the status:
1.Click on start button and navigate to Control Panel>Hardware and Sound\Power Options
2.In the left pane of the window, Click on "Dell Battery Meter"
3.Click on "Battery Life " tab
4.Click on "Disable Battery Charging" and click OK
5.Reboot your laptop.

Dell Inspiron 1545 Booting Problem [Black Screen].

Insert the original Windows CD-ROM into the DVD-drive, and see if the computer will "boot" from that disk. If so, then it could be your 'C:' drive which is having the problem, and thus not "booting" your computer from it.

tbrace, your picture tube is getting a little tired, the "IK circuit" is causing the blanking of the video because the tube is not returning a large enough signal back to the IC that monitors it. Theres only one fix (besides replacing the tube) for your set and that is to turn up the screen control. You have to remove the back from the set and on the right hand side there is a large plastic part called a flyback transformer, with a heavy wire coming out of the top which goes up to the picture tube, mounted on the front of this transformer is 2 black blastic "philips type" controls, one over the other look closely and one will be marked focus(do not turn that one) and the other is the screen control, turn the set on and SLOWLY turn the control clockwise until you see a bright picture with white lines in it, once you see the lines turn it back until they disappear, (check several channels to be sure they are gone) your done, may last 3 weeks, may last a year, it`s all you can do, BMW Rider
