Hi! My daughter has a Macbook and also a vivitar 550 dvr camcorder. The software it comes with isn't recognized by Mac and she wants to hook the camera up to her laptop so she can edit and make "movies" on her computer.
What does she need to do so it will work for her? Thanks!
Hi there, the camera can be used without drivers with a computer running MacOS (10 and greater, which I'm sure your daughter's would be anyway) for the purposes of downloading the video files from the camera to the computer and editing etc.
The functionality which is not supported without the drivers (which are windows only unfortunately) is using the camera as a webcam.
On connecting the USB cable from the camera to the MacBook and turning the camera on, you will be presented with a menu on the flip-out LCD screen entitled "PC connection". The two items on the menu allow you to choose between allowing you to download videos and other content from the camera (Mass Storage) and using the camera as a webcam for the computer (PC Camera).
Mass Storage is the option you need to select at this point (which I believe is highlighted by default) after which an icon will appear on the desktop of the MacBook allowing you access to the camera's storage.
Hope this was of some help.
Regards,
