Question about Maytag MED9700S Electric Dryer

Open Question

Maytag Dryer getting no power

Actually the power cord tests out with the terminal block with a cont. tester. Also tested white wire on terminal block with the white wire at P-1 on the board and the same with the black wires with good results. I also tested the 'control on' button by testing the corasponding ribbon wires and got a good 3.43 reading. The belt is in good shape. Would this indicate the need for a new electronic board? The dryer is only about a year or less old. Thanks in advance, Mike

Test you thermal fuse (WPL 279973) (Cutoff, or high limit) these are all the same. It's located on the side of the element housing. If it is bad, besure to replace the cycling thermostat (295 degree F.) also.

- Thanks, this was a good try, but the thermal fuse was good, showing 0.00 cont. I checked the thermistor next to it and got a 10.12 reading that slowly increased to around 10.95 before leveling off.

It still seems to be the board?

I may not know how to use the multi tester. It gives a 0.00 when you connect the tester leads together, so if you test a wire that is good it shows 0.00. A bad wire will show 1.00 for no direct contact to the leads. That's how I concidered that the fuse was making a clean connection by a 0.00 reading.

The thermal fuse should have continuity. A lack of continuity indicates a blown fuse. Maybe I am misundertanding your test results. Did the thermal fuse have continuity or did it show nothing? I would be hesitant to blame the control board at this point and agree with the other expert that the thermal fuse is the more likely cause. Best wishes.

I had the same problem last month. My heater element broke in two places. This created an electrical open that prevented the heater from functioning. I replaced the heater element and my problem was solved.

In order to check your heater element: With the machine unplugged, disconnect one wire to the heater element and then use an ohm meter or multimeter across the heater element lugs to read resistance. Infinite ohms = open circuit.

Electric Dryer How To Hook Up Cord pixel_trans.gifFor Three Prong Cords
the Center cord wire goes on the center terminal,
the left on the left ,
and the right on the right.

Note: There should be a ground strap or wire that runs from the center terminal to the dryer case.

For Four Prong Cords
the White cord wire goes in the center,
the Red on the Right,
the Black on the Left.
The green cord wire goes to the case or the external ground screw.

Note: Be sure to disconnect the ground wire or strap that runs from the center terminal to the case. In this Photo (A Whirlpool Dryer) I have ran the wire that runs from the center terminal, the Light Green wire, back to itself rather than cutting it off, just incase I need to put a 3 prong cord back on it some day. The whole purpose of this 3 prong / 4 prong thing is it separates the neutral from the ground. pixel_trans.gif pixel_trans.gif3 Prong Cord Whirlpool Dryer Example terminalblock.jpg 4 Prong Cord Whirlpool Dryer Example 4prongcord_small.jpg

LG electric dryer is not heating. Electric coils test for continuity. Any suggestions?

There are several things that can prevent a dryer from not heating. UNPLUG DRYER BEFORE TESTING ANYTHING.
1- power- Test the receptical to make sure you are getting 220 volts. To do this you need and voltage tester. Both legs should pull 110 and together 220. If one leg is not pulling any power than your breaker is half tripped. Reset breaker to cure your problem. If problem persist it is in the breaker or receptical.
2- cord- To test this unplug dryer. Take the panel covering the cord connections off. Remove cord entirely from dryer. Test each leg for continuity. If any are not showing cont than replace cord.
3- Themal fuse- To test this remove access back access panel on some front panel. By the blower housing there is a fuse white thin sliver or round fuse with 2 wires going to it. The one with 4 wires is your low limit cycling thermistat. The thermal fuse is near that. Disconnect the 2 wires and check fuse for continuity. If meter shows cont fuse it good. If not replace fuse.
4- Hi Limit Thermistat- test same way as thermal fuse. On the heating element housing at the bottom are 3 wires running to a fuse. Test the left and right. The bottom is attached to one of the sides.
5- Thermal Cutoff- Test same way as thermal fuse. This fuse is near the top of the heating elemnt above the Hi Limit. 2 wires with usually plastic covers on them.
6- Heating Element- Below high limit 2 wires. Test for continuity.
If all these fuses are good than you may need to call a technician. The motor may not be getting to the right rpm to activate the senfrigrial switch in the moter. Timer or control board may be out.
7- Motor- If

Changing 220 plugs need discription of positive and negitive to dryer

If you are installing a 3 prong cord , then the 2 outer wires , are the power lines , and the center is the neutral . On the dryer , the center wire connects to the white wire on the terminal block . The 2 outer cord wires . 1 connects to the black wire terminal on the block ( outside terminal ) , and the other outside wire , connects to the red ( outside terminal ) on the block . Its the same if you are installing a 4 wire cord , except the green , connects to the ground screw on the dryer itself .

Need to change power cord on maytag dryer from 3 prong to 4

Always disconnect electricity before beginning this process.

All the 4 wire cords I have seen are color-coded. The white wire goes to the middle terminal, the green wire goes to any screw you can reach that goes into the metal case of the dyer. The red and black go to the outside terminals of the block and while it doesn't matter which color goes to which terminal I usually follow the color code of the interior dryer wiring that already exists. Good Luck.

MAYTAG DRYER ELECTRICAL CONNECTION

If the dryer has a 4 wire cord and you need a 3 wire cord, you should have a jumper, or little metal strip, that came with the dryer. You will connect this jumper between the green ground screw that attaches to the frame and the screw where you white neutral wire lands on the terminal block.

If the dryer is 4 wire and you need it four wire, you simply connect the white to the neutral screw, the black to one of your hot screws, the red to your other hot screw and you green to the green screw connected to your frame. If there is a piece of metal, "jumper" connected from the neutral or white screw and the green screw in the frame you will need to remove this.

Write back if you need clarification.

MAKE SURE THE CIRCUIT IS OFF AND THE CORD UNPLUGGED FROM THE OUTLET BEFORE STARTING. TEST FOR VOLTAGE BEFORE DOING ANYTHING.

Used maytag electric dryer installation question

First off, you should be wiring your power cord directly to the terminal block inside the dryer. If someone just cut off the cord that is terminated inside the dryer, and you are attempting to splice the new cord onto the old one.. you are making a mistake.. take the new cord and bond it directly to the terminal block inside the dryer. If you have a new 4-wire power cord, you are probably dealing with a red/black/white and green wire. ( assuming it is a four prong plug).. The black and red wires are the power lines themselves and should mate with the red and black wires inside the dryer. The green ( is frame ground) and is normally bonded to a stud near the terminal block or the dryer frame. The white is the neutral line and is normally tied to the terminal in the middle and between the red and black tie points.. In line splices should not be done on this appliance.. Hope this helps..
