Question about Dell E171FPb 17" Flat Panel LCD Monitor

1 Answer

No power I was given a dell e171fpb yesterday. First time I plugged it in, it took hours (overnight) for the displat to come up & power light to come on.. Once it did, it looked fine. I was told that this was the case from the person who gave it to me as well. I brought it home, plugged it in (using the same power cord, but not connected to my pc) waited hours (12 or so) and nothing. No power light, picture etc. Any ideas?

Won't turn on! Powers up for about 6 seconds then

If its a brand new pc, I'd get straight back on to Dell, there could be a fault and you don't want to invalidate your warranty by messing about with it.

Black screen when the power is on.

Common failure in the Dell are shorted transistors or bad caps in the inverter ccircuits, bad solder joints, bad caps in power supply. I would try it on another PC first, if it still does not work, you will have to open it up. Please look through my pictures of failed Dell moniotrs to get some ideas.

Have you unplugged the power cord to the LCD? Let it sit for a minute, then try it. ALWAYS buy a UPS and plug any computer devices into it. Doesn't have to be big, a $50 unit will protect it from dangerous voltage surges.

Dell Monitor (e171fpb) is black

Try checking your connections, and also restarting your computer with the monitor plugged in. If you've made any internal changes to your computer, back them out one at a time restarting each time until your monitor works. If you hear any beeping or still can't get it to work, let me know

POWERSAVE

I have A "Dell" E152FPc, and I have found an open transistor (Q201) on the Power Supply Board. My monitor comes on nice and bright for approximately 2 seconds, then goes dark; the power LED is steady. The voltage to the PWM IC is waky.
Before you try any hardware troubleshooting go to your control panel and turn off any power management options.

Try first unplugging the monitor and the computer from the wall for 12 to 24 hours. If this does not work, hook up another monitor to the puter to see if the problems with the puter or the monitor.
