try updating your BIOS (if there is any new update). I had once a laptop which didn't recognize new CPU and BIOS update didn't help. So i had to return my new cpu, I've read later that chipset was not compatible with that, but strangely it did boot up.

Dell studio 1555 doesn't read DVD or CD , when I insert CD / DVD it looks like it is reading the media but when I click on Drive icon, it ejects the media.

First reinstall the DVD driver to see if the DVD drive works.
If not then -
Try removing the DVD drive and inserting it back to make sure it properly connected then boot up the laptop and go into the BIOS and see it the DVD drive is detected, if the DVD drive is not detected then the DVD drive is faulty and needs to be replaced.

Disc stuck in dvd drive

If you cannot eject a DVD or CD from the drive, you will find a small hole in the drive cover - Take a paper clip and straighten it, then poke the clip through the hole, then gently but firmly push, and the tray will open.

The laser head of the optical unit is either covered in dust - clean it - or it's dead. In that case you must replace the entire unit.
