Oil leak at top of pump

I have a bored North Star pressure washer with a Honda GC 190 motor and a Comet GXD 2627 pump. It appears that oil is leak out around the cap with the yellow top at the top of the pump. Do I need to add oil? If so how much and what type? How do I stop the leak?

Thanks for a quick reply.

That should have read "I have a borrowed North Star..." not "bored".

The oil in the pump is probably leaking because a seal is blown and water is getting into the piston housing. Take a look inside at the oil. It should be brown and translucent. If it is gray, white or milky, you have a blown oil seal. This reservoir should only be 1/3 full of non-detergent oil to begin with. Hope this helps

As far as the pump gose just use a 30 weight oil they call it pump oil but realy its a 30 weight oil if you want the # its AW-4085-0016 or equivlant . The engine oil is a 10 -30 in most tempatures they say use a 30 wight above 40 degrees but i use mobil one extend proformance 10 -30 all year long in all of my mechines and have never had any problems and there all honda engines . Just change the oil every year some of mind are 35 years oil and run perfictly

I have water in the oil in the comet pump/ZWD 4030. It is on a North Star 3000 hpw.

You have a seal failure, you need to reseal the pump and change the oil in the pump.

I have a Comet 4040 and oil and water mix is bubbling out of the red cap on top of my pressure washer. Can anyone tell me what repair kit I might need to fix this problem?

Hi this could be the oil and pump seals worn. Also make sure that you don,t have the transit plug in or the pump cannot breath. It should have a air vented dipstick.

Oil grade and level in pump reservoir? Motor is shutting down, all else seems fine, assume is oil level. North Star with Honda GX340 - pressure washer.

15-40 there will be a fill mark that is easy to see when you remove the cap or it will have a dip stick

Second your oil pressure switch may be bad or have a bad connection

I tried to start my honda gc 190 and noted the air

Worn rings or valves and valve will do it.

Also over filling the crankcase with oil which is most likely because it is a common error. Especially if it is not a high mileage bike.

Hope this helps!
